Lab Engineer

Roles and responsibilities for Lab manager:

1. Procurement:

a. Be instrumental (SPOC) for centralized procurement at BML for lab assets/components – capex/opex/project

i. Single window contact/liaison between SE R&D team and equipment vendors.

ii. Invoice generation, new purchase BR

iii. Develop & establish multiple vendors & OEM’s for new equipment acquisition & component procurement to reduce single source dependency.

iv. Should engage with OEMs for new product demos.

b. Predictive/Proactive procurement for future needs

i. Engage with Squads and establish an inventory of commonly used active & passive electronic components, debuggers, decade resistance boxes etc...

ii. Replenishment of consumables like wires, solders, 3-pin plugs, switches, electric bulbs etc…

iii. Plan, schedule and implement a calibration process for relevant equipment like Thermal chambers, multimeters, DSO, power supplies etc…

iv. Plan and schedule maintenance of Test benches on a periodic basis without impacting project activities.

c. Evaluate the need, and also the pattern for Exceptional (adHoc) procurement

d. Create and manage the record of newly procured and existing items.

i. Use / Develop tool to manage equipment/ consumable inventory & project specific items.

ii. Assign owners to project specific equipment.

iii. Based on team specific needs assign Capex assets like environmental chambers, power supplies etc…

iv. Inward ordered devices, components, meters & submit Invoices for GRN activity.

e. Review of shipment process.

i. For incoming deliveries - share technical write-ups (with support from R&D team), Cost center/WBS details with SE shipment team.

ii. For outgoing shipments - generate gate pass, collaborate with Sunil KT to have all shipment documents & share Tracking numbers to relevant stakeholders.

2. Inventory management -

a. New equipment acquisition - follow up on setting up test bench (with squads and with ATOL team), newly procured items.

b. Asset occupancy/usability for ex thermal chamber and other related items

c. Centralized management of small components / asset management - Need assets distribution and tracking against the owners

d. IT assets management (need clarity on ownership) - CPUs, Monitors assigned individual/teams needs to be tracked by periodic audits.

e. Scrap list tracker (extension of point 1.d)

f. Exit criteria - Lab manager to give NOC for any employee in notice period, by evaluating the pending items (all assigned capex and project related devices/equipment/meter).

3. Lab Management

a. Daily monitoring of 5S – Lab governance wrt Rules/regulations

b. Real estate optimization

- Centralized allocation of test bench space.

- Evaluation of existing test bench scrapping to make space for new ones.

c. Cupboards management (allocation and monitoring)

Work Experience

Qualifications

- BTech / EEE with Extensive experience in technical leadership roles Highly developed influence skills with minimum 5-8 years of lab management.
