Location: Village Vets Ashbourne
Reports to: Head Nurse/ Assistant Hospital Manager
Schedule: 4 day week, 1 in 4 Saturday's
Salary: €32,375- €35,000
About the Role
- Supporting veterinary surgeons and nurses in day-to-day clinical activities.
- Caring for patients and inpatients to Village Vets’ high standard.
- Safely handling and restraining animals during examinations and treatments.
- Monitoring animals for signs of illness or distress and reporting concerns.
- Maintaining accurate records of medications, feeding, and patient observations.
- Assisting with routine laboratory work under nurse supervision.
- Preparing treatment rooms and equipment.
- Able to package external lab samples and run basic internal lab samples. Set up patients on x-ray machine.
- Maintaining excellent hygiene standards across the clinic, including cleaning equipment and animal areas
- Restocking clinical and medical supplies and assisting with food, stationary and housekeeping orders
- Supporting reception duties and contributing to a welcoming, efficient front-of-house experience
- Promoting Pet Health Plans and Pet Insurance to clients
- Completing ad hoc veterinary or administrative duties as required
- Contributing to an outstanding client experience through teamwork and professionalism
About You
- Minimum of 2 years experience working as an Animal Care Assistant in a small animal practice or a hospital setting.
- Interested in progressing into leadership by enrolling in further training.
- Level 5 or above Animal Care Certificate
- Be enthusiastic, reliable, and passionate about animal care.
- A strong work ethic and a proactive, can-do attitude
- Confidence handling animals safely and compassionately
- A commitment to high standards of animal welfare and client care
- A friendly, professional manner with clients and colleagues
