About the Team:
The Fraud Services Team is part of First Citizens India, Enterprise Operations and is responsible for detecting potentially illicit activity targeting First Citizens India client accounts and escalating illicit activity to be investigated, when appropriate. This newly set up team will play a crucial role in safeguarding the customers and organization from fraud risks by supporting end-to-end fraud detection, prevention and investigation processes.
Impact
This position analyzes transactions in multiple payment channels to detect suspicious or high-risk activity.
This role will help to detect emerging fraud trends, reduce losses and enhance controls. This role offers
high visibility and direct impact giving the opportunity to shape fraud strategies and contribute to safer banking environment.
Determines the appropriate course of action to mitigate risks and stop further loss, protecting
compromised accounts to prevent any subsequent fraudulent transactions.
Key Deliverables
- Fraud Analysis - Compiles and analyzes transactions for multiple payment channels. Reviews transactions to identify high risk situations, fraudulent activity, and internal control breakdowns. Effectively communicates analysis output.
- Account Takeover (ATO) & Identity Theft Reviews - Investigate alerts involving account takeover, identity theft, unauthorized account access, and suspicious customer activity. Take appropriate actions to mitigate risk and prevent further losses.
- Business Support - Maintains a strong knowledge of evolving fraud trends, applicable regulations, and fraud prevention methodologies. Serves as a resource for associates and clients to discuss and resolve fraudulent activity and provides support in resolving complex fraud issues. Protects compromised accounts to prevent subsequent fraudulent transactions. Communicate effectively with associates, clients, operations, and peer bank contacts on loss prevention activity and techniques.
- Check Fraud Investigations - Review and analyze counterfeit checks, altered checks, unauthorized drafts, and other check-related fraud activities. Escalate confirmed fraud cases and recommend loss prevention measures.
- Customer Remediation & Resolution - Support customer remediation efforts by coordinating fraud resolution activities, minimizing customer impact, and ensuring timely resolution of fraud-related issues.
- Loss Prevention & Risk Mitigation - Reduce fraud-related financial exposure through proactive account monitoring, transaction analysis, and identification of suspicious activity patterns, preventing potential customer and bank losses.
- Leadership - Serves in a backup capacity for work group supervisor. Mentor newer associates in the work group, providing guidance, training, and support in resolving complex fraud issues.
- Reporting - Tracks metrics based on analysis and case information for reporting purposes. Conveys emerging trends.
Skills and Qualification
Functional Skills:
- Fraud Detection & Investigation – Ability to analyze transactional data and detect patterns indicative of fraud activity across various payment channels
- Hands-on experience conducting Account Takeover (ATO), Identity Theft, and Customer Account Take over investigations. Investigating unauthorized wires, fraudulent wire transactions, and taking appropriate account-level actions including account freezes and restrictions.
- Expertise in reviewing counterfeit checks, altered checks, unauthorized drafts, and other check fraud typologies.
- Risk Assessment – Evaluate fraud risks and apply appropriate decision-making frameworks to prevent losses while minimizing customer impact.
- Knowledge of Fraud typologies – Understanding of common and emerging fraud schemes.
- Communication & Reporting – Strong verbal and written communication skills to document findings and communicate with internal team’s customers and regulatory bodies when required.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder management – Ability to work effectively with cross functional teams including compliance, legal, operations and technology partner.
- Time management & Prioritization – Capable of managing multiple fraud alerts and cases simultaneously in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
- Policy Adherence & Governance: In-depth knowledge of fraud prevention policies, regulatory guidelines (e.g., Reg E, OFAC), and ability to ensure compliance with internal risk controls.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Experience in working with cross-functional teams such as Legal, Compliance, Technology, and Onshore Fraud Strategy teams to implement effective fraud response strategies.
- Process Improvement Mindset: Ability to review existing fraud processes, identify gaps, and drive improvements through automation, SOP updates, or control enhancements.
- Data Analysis & Pattern Recognition: Ability to interpret transaction data, detect anomalies, and use analytical tools to identify fraud patterns and recommend controls.
Technical/Business Skills:
- Fraud detection tools and platforms – Typically, 6-8 years of experience in Fraud Detection/Investigations or closely related field, including experience conducting complex investigations with platforms like actimize, Falcon, SAS fraud management systems, FICO, NICE or equivalent platforms including experience providing training, feedback, and coaching and helping drive BSA compliant investigative strategy.
- Data analysis & Interpretation Proficiency in analyzing large datasets to identify anomalies trends and fraud patterns using tools like excel, SQL or SAS. Dashboarding & Reporting tools familiarity with BI tools such as tableau, power BI or other internal dashboards for fraud reporting and insights.
- Business process understanding ability to map and improve fraud related operational processes to drive efficiency and enhance controls.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance awareness of fraud related compliance standards, SAR reporting and internal audit readiness, Fraud Detection, and Fraud Prevention within U.S. banking environments including mandates such as Reg E, UDAAP, OFAC, and BSA/AML implications in fraud scenarios.
- Automation & Technology Orientation: Ability to collaborate with tech teams for automation initiatives, contribute to rule logic enhancement, and participate in UATs or tool migrations.
- Communication & Documentation: Strong written and verbal communication for case documentation, stakeholder updates, and drafting business requirements for fraud strategy changes.
