L3Harris in Brighton are part of our Release Systems & Antennas division operating in the Aerospace domain. For over 70 years, L3Harris has designed and developed industry-leading carriage and release systems for fighter, rotary-wing and unmanned platforms and we design, manufacture and test a large portion of our release systems portfolio in our Brighton facility which offers 48,500 square feet of manufacturing space. Our mission-critical release systems equipment is on most major airborne fighter platforms worldwide, including the F-35, along with other aircraft like the Gripen and Typhoon.

What the role will involve

Mechanical inspection to include all listed below plus Calibration support when required.

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

Inspection

- Inspection of precision components from in-house manufacture/assembly, sub-contractors and suppliers.
- First off inspection for manufactured parts/assemblies.
- First article inspection (FAI) reporting for single level parts and multi-level assemblies.
- Update and maintain paperwork associated with inspection procedures.
- Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers when required.
- Source inspection (VAS inspect at suppliers).
- Patrol inspection of manufacturing areas.
- Raising Non-conformance reports (NCR’s) and dimensional reports.
- Liaise with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, design & Production Control when required to support production requirements.

Calibration Support (training provided)

- Supporting the calibration Technician and functions within the Calibration department.
- Publish weekly recall list and action.
- Locating Overdue items and processing in accordance with procedures.
- Gather in and calibration of equipment (mechanical & electrical).
- Obtain quotations and raise purchase orders for calibration of equipment sent out and arrange visits for calibration of in-house equipment where required.
- Issuing of gauges when required by production.
- Maintain the Gauge Tool Management (GTM) database.
- Entering new gauging/equipment on the GTM database and storing gauges in the Supply Point System (SPS).

What you’ll bring

The role requires the following experience and skills:

- Minimum of 3 year’s experience, working in an inspection, machine shop or calibration environment.
- Experience in using precision measuring equipment
- Good understanding of Mechanical Inspection & Calibration techniques
- Good working knowledge of ISO 9001:2001 and ideally AS9100 Rev D
- PC literate – Word, Excel and database experience
- Manufacturing experience (mechanical)
- Ability to interpret Engineering Drawings
- Ability to interpret Geometric Tolerances

Desirable experience or skills:

- Calibration experience
- CMM operation / programming experience
- Q-Pulse Software (FAIR)
- Tensile testing experience for Product Quality Testing (PQT)
- Universal Linear Measurement (ULM). Equipment for measuring Thread, plug and ring gauges etc.
