Cognitive Performance Specialist (CPS)

The 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston supports the nation’s rapid global airlift mission—delivering people, equipment, and capabilities wherever they are needed, often under extraordinarily demanding conditions. LMR Technical Group is hiring human-performance professionals to help aircrew members stay mentally sharp, physically durable, resilient, and mission-ready. These aircrews routinely operate in challenging environments, including extended-duration flights, low-altitude operations using night-vision goggles, and high-altitude aerial delivery missions. After hours of demanding operations, they must still have the focus, judgment, and physical capability to safely bring their aircraft home.

Working directly with active-duty mobility aircrews, you will help optimize performance across the mental, emotional, and physical domains. Modern military operations demand more than physical fitness. They require people who can think clearly under pressure, adapt to rapidly changing conditions, manage stress, and sustain peak performance over long periods of time. Duties and Responsibilities:

- Apply expertise in the subject matter, including industry best practices of operational and functional cognitive performance from military, aviation, and professional sports for the development of training programs.

- Deliver briefings, educational sessions, and seminars as needed.

- Use simulation technology and biofeedback to promote excellence and efficiency for physical, technical, and tactical training during the challenges of combat operations or pressure situations. Gather data, compile information into documents, and provide briefings, regarding applicable sports/performance/operational/aviation psychology and leverage mental expertise and cognitive enhancement training techniques.

- Analyze and identify needs, and provide viable interventions, including training and performance support.

- Assist in the development of research procedures.

- Develop and deliver relevant cognitive performance content and teaching materials for all HP syllabi.

- Develop an Individualized Program (IP) for each member served: The CPS, working with other team members, will develop an IP for each assigned aircrew member to optimize cognitive performance, with emphasis on warfighting skills and tasks in a complex, demanding environment.

- Integrate cognitive performance with physical fitness training.

- Attend staff meetings with unit commanders as requested to review and evaluate human performance programming and identify opportunities for improvement.

- Prepare and submit data to a comprehensive Human Performance Measures of Effectiveness Report (HP-MER).

- Document Aircrew assessments, encounters, and contacts as directed by the Program Office within 3 business days of assessments, encounters, or contacts with Aircrew Members.

- Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in psychology, Counseling, Human Performance, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, and/or Sport Sciences with a specialization in Sport Psychology or similar from an accredited institution/university.

- 5+ years providing cognitive performance services. Experience in collegiate (or higher), professional, or tactical athletics; aerospace industry, test pilot/astronaut or similar man-machine high-performance environment.

- Association for Applied Sports Psychology Consultant Certification (CMPC - Certified Mental Performance Consultant)

- Current CPR and AED certification.

- Current (or ability to obtain and maintain) Secret security clearance (T3 background investigation). Must be a U.S. citizen to obtain a Secret clearance.
