Introduction to the Department
West Midlands Police are recruiting into an exciting role as a Mounted Unit Stable Manager.

About the Role
The role of the Stable Manager will sit alongside the operational police sergeants and will manage the Mounted Unit stable facilities, ensure animal welfare and manage the associated police staff members. Mounted Unit police constables will be directly line managed via the Mounted Unit Sergeants. The Mounted Unit will be overseen by the Mounted Unit Inspector.
The Stable Manager will supervise a team of police staff grooms, with responsibility for operational competence and capability, and ongoing continual professional development. The Stable Manager will perform administrative duties commensurate with the role.
The Stable Manager function exists to manage the day-to-day activities and administration of the stables facilities, it is not an operational policing role.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee Equine welfare, health and fitness, leading on individual care plans and working with other professionals to maintain horse health, fitness and suitability for Police duties

• Manage Stable, yard and biosecurity measures, ensuring appropriate storage and handling.

• Ensure horses are operationally prepared for deployment, including structured welfare checks, tack and equipment maintenance and WMP mounted standard operating procedures followed.

• Management of grooms and apprentices in line with their role functions ensuring welfare focused best practices are followed, support their continued professional development and maintain performance reviews.

• Assist to manage financial budgets connected to stable management and welfare of horses, manage procurement, ordering of feed, bedding and other consumables and services for the stables and horses.

Salary and Shifts
Salary: £38,169

Shift: 0700 - 1500 (Monday to Friday) with occasional weekend working as required.

Selection Process

2. Interview - Candidates who successfully pass the application stage will be invited to attend an interview and. This will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your suitability for the role.
Proposed date(s): W/C 23rd November

3. Assessment - A 2 day suitability assessment to include stable and equine skills and knowledge in a work based environment. It will also include a riding and groundwork assessment. It will take place in WMP Mounted Unit, Stables, Tally Ho. The assessments will start W/C 30th November
