Role Overview

The Connected Properties Sales Engineer will provide technical sales leadership and solution-design support for Sparklight’s Connected Properties organization. This role supports managed connectivity and data services opportunities across multi-dwelling communities, resorts, destination properties, larger hotels, hotel chains, hospitality portfolios, student housing, senior living, and other property-based environments.

This individual will partner with the Connected Properties Sales Manager and Account Executives to lead technical discovery, assess property requirements, and design right-sized solutions that support resident, guest, staff, operational, and smart-property needs. The Sales Engineer will help define the complete solution, including property-wide Wi-Fi, data services, internet access, bandwidth, network architecture, resiliency, security, implementation requirements, and ongoing support considerations.

What You Will Do to Contribute to the Company’s Success

Technical Sales Support & Discovery

- Provide technical sales support to the Connected Properties Sales Manager and Account Executives throughout the sales process
- Lead customer discovery sessions to understand business objectives, technical requirements, current challenges, property conditions, operational needs, growth plans, and measures of success
- Engage property owners, developers, operators, management organizations, technology leaders, construction partners, and other key stakeholders
- Translate customer requirements into clear technical recommendations and practical business outcomes
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, information gaps, and implementation considerations early in the sales cycle

Connected Property Solution Design

- Design right-sized managed connectivity solutions for multi-dwelling and hospitality environments, including in-unit or guest-room Wi-Fi, common areas, conference spaces, amenities, property offices, staff networks, and outdoor areas
- Incorporate the appropriate data services, internet access, bandwidth, IP addressing, network architecture, segmentation, resiliency, and service requirements into each solution
- Assess requirements for cameras, access control, building systems, IoT devices, property-management operations, and other connected-property technologies
- Develop high-level wired and wireless network designs that consider property layout, coverage, capacity, device density, roaming, interference, security, redundancy, and future growth
- Recommend right-sized solutions that balance customer experience, technical performance, implementation feasibility, supportability, and commercial considerations
- Create technical configurations, bills of material, assumptions, solution recommendations, and supporting documentation for proposals and sales quotes

Site Assessment & Technical Validation

- Coordinate and participate in remote and on-site property assessments, technical walkthroughs, and discovery meetings
- Review available floor plans, property maps, construction documents, network diagrams, equipment locations, pathways, power availability, and existing infrastructure
- Partner with Engineering, Construction, Operations, Product, and implementation teams to validate solution feasibility and identify build or installation requirements
- Document technical assumptions, dependencies, exclusions, customer responsibilities, and required next steps
- Support technical validation for new construction, retrofit, individual-property, multi-property, and portfolio opportunities

Customer Presentations & Solution Consultation

- Conduct live and remote technical presentations, solution reviews, and product demonstrations
- Explain complex networking, Wi-Fi, data services, and smart-property concepts to stakeholders with varying levels of technical experience
- Develop customer use cases that demonstrate how Connected Properties solutions improve resident and guest experiences, simplify property operations, and support connected technologies
- Participate in proposal presentations, technical evaluations, customer question-and-answer sessions, and solution negotiations
- Build confidence with customer technical teams and decision-makers by providing accurate, clear, and practical guidance

Cross-Functional Coordination & Implementation Handoff

- Partner with Sales, Product, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Customer Care, Project Management, Finance, and other teams to support successful customer outcomes
- Ensure proposed designs, configurations, data services, and implementation requirements are complete and accurately reflected in customer proposals and internal documentation
- Provide a disciplined technical handoff to implementation teams, including diagrams, assumptions, dependencies, service requirements, customer commitments, and open technical items
- Remain engaged through key implementation milestones when technical clarification or design support is needed
- Monitor recurring technical, product, or customer issues and escalate significant concerns to the appropriate teams

Sales Enablement & Continuous Improvement

- Train sales associates on Connected Properties solutions, data services, technical discovery, positioning, and new offerings
- Create sales enablement materials, technical guides, discovery tools, solution diagrams, reference architectures, and customer-facing presentations
- Identify additional sales opportunities based on customer requirements, operational needs, property expansion plans, and solution gaps
- Capture field feedback and recommend improvements to solution standards, technical processes, documentation, and enablement resources
- Stay current on Sparklight services, networking and Wi-Fi technologies, connected-property trends, hospitality and MDU requirements, and relevant industry developments

Qualifications

- Five or more years of experience in sales engineering, technical sales, telecommunications, networking, information technology, wireless engineering, or a customer-facing technical role
- Expertise in business connectivity, data services, Wi-Fi technology, wireless design techniques, networking, and implementation
- Working knowledge of internet access, Ethernet, IP addressing, routing, switching, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, network segmentation, resiliency, cybersecurity, SD-WAN, and fixed or mobile 5G/LTE connectivity
- Experience designing or supporting Wi-Fi solutions for multi-building, high-density, hospitality, MDU, campus, or other complex property environments preferred
- Ability to assess coverage, capacity, device density, roaming, interference, performance, and physical infrastructure considerations at a practical solution-design level
- Experience working with floor plans, property maps, basic network diagrams, technical documentation, and site-assessment information
- Bachelor’s or associate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Ability to earn relevant industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, CWNA, Meraki certifications, or similar credentials
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Ability to create technical documentation, solution diagrams, bills of material, training materials, and customer-facing presentations
- Strong presentation, communication, and public-speaking skills, including technical demonstrations and training
- Ability to explain technical concepts to customers and associates with varying levels of technical experience
- Ability to assess customer needs, troubleshoot technical concerns, manage ambiguity, and recommend practical, right-sized solutions
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple sales-support requests, priorities, and deadlines
- Creative thinking and adaptability in a fast-paced sales and customer-service environment
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams
- Ability to travel as needed for customer meetings, property assessments, site walkthroughs, industry events, and internal collaboration
