About this role
Position Summary: The bartender creates an atmosphere of refinement and good taste and provides professional, responsible beverage service for members and their guests, preparing drinks with proper measurements, established by the Club, in an appetizing display with appropriate garnishes. The bartender takes charge of his/her bar, recognizing members and their guests’ needs and responds with a sense of urgency. He/she promotes a sense of camaraderie with follow employees. The bartender understands the House Rules as determined by the Board of Directors and reports infractions to management professionally and accurately .
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
- The Abbey bar is to be organized and clean, reflecting in all aspects a pleasing atmosphere. Bars should be in this condition thirty minutes before opening time and maintained throughout the day.
- Members are welcomed with a greeting during the first minute of their arrival.
- Drink orders are taken within 2 minutes after initial greeting.
- All beverages are served in the appropriate glassware, with established measurements, in an appetizing display, with appropriate garnishes.
- Members and guests are checked for satisfaction every 15 minutes during their stay.
- The guest check is presented accurately, using Tableside handheld iPad, thanking the member by name, always ensuring a signature from the member.
- All bartenders are trained in alcohol management and are TAM certified.
- A requisition order is filled out to stock and replace beverages, or bar supplies and keep the established pars filled ensuring un-interrupted service.
- Full knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits
- Full knowledge of beverage trends
- Ability to perform creative mixology and create original craft cocktails
- Bartenders will tend to any tables assigned to their section
- Bartenders will complete a daily opening and closing checklist according to their scheduled shift
Supportive Functions: In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position is required to perform certain supportive functions. The amount of time spent performing each of these functions is to be solely determined by the manager/supervisor on duty and is based on the particular requirements of each specific outlet.
- Maintain an open line of communication between members and their guests, management, and line employees
- Assist in training of newly hired employees
Qualifications
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
An individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge of appropriate table settings and service ware.
- Knowledge of restaurant operations, to include proper staffing levels, member relations and etiquette.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, record orders, communicate with members and guests to explain all offerings and record special requests.
- Ability to remember, recite and promote a variety of menu items.
- Ability to move throughout a crowded dining room to attend to guests.
- Ability to effectively deal with member and guest complaints and concerns in a courteous and professional manner. This involves carefully listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy, and providing a positive, proactive solution.
Qualification Standards:
Education: Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. Mixologist certificate is preferred.
Experience: Prior hospitality experience (Full dining specifically) is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates: Ability to obtain any Club required certification or licenses. Example: Valid TAM certificate.
Other: Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to support the business needs of the Club
