Regional English Language Learners Teacher (K-6th) at Westfield Charter Academy

Summary:
The English Language (EL) teacher provides English language development instruction to children who are acquiring English as an additional language. The EL Teacher works collaboratively with other school-based instructional personnel to meet the individual needs of each English Learner (EL)/Multilingual Learner (ML) child. Required activities include planning and delivering lessons, collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists, administering formative and summative assessments to measure language progress, completing documentation required for compliance with state and federal guidelines, and attending regular Professional Development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Plans and delivers lessons to promote students’ English language development.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of EL/MLs across content areas through the Sheltered Instruction and the English Language Development program models.
- Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor language progress and ensure student achievement.
- Completes documentation required for compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Completes daily logs of student services.
- Attends regular Professional Development offerings.
- Be available for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences and school events.
- Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- For all except GA: Must hold a valid teacher license in the applicable grade level for the state in which you are applying. Remove for GA
- For CO only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Education endorsement. Minimally, candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway for gaining licensure and obtain a CLD endorsement within 2 years of certification.
- For GA only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid teaching license and P-12 English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. Minimally, candidates for this position must be on a waiver to obtain licensure within 3 years and/or an ESOL endorsement within 2 years.
- For IN only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold an English as a New Language (ENL) Professional Educator License. Minimally, candidates for this position may hold an ENL Emergency Permit and must obtain an ENL Professional licensure within three (3) years in order to comply with EL Teacher of Record state requirements.
- For LA only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid teaching license and an English as a Second Language (ESL) ancillary endorsement. Minimally, candidates for this position must be on a waiver to obtain licensure within 3 years and/or an ESL endorsement within 2 years.
- For MI only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid teaching license for the grades they will serve (K-8 or 6-12) and an English as a Second Language (NS) or a Bilingual endorsement. Minimally, candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway towards gaining licensure for the grades they serve (K-8 or 6-12) within three years and then obtain an NS or YA-YT endorsement within 2 years of certification.
- For NC only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid English as a Second Language teaching license for the grades they will serve (K-12). Minimally, candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway towards gaining ESL licensure for the grades they serve and obtain ESL licensure within 2 years.
- For NY only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid Initial or Professional English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) license. Minimally, candidates for this position must hold a Provisional License and enroll in courses towards completion of an TESOL license within 6 months. Must obtain TESOL certification within 5 years.
- For OH only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a Professional, Supplemental, or RE License type with a PK-12 TESOL endorsement. Minimally, candidates for this position must hold a license type listed above and obtain a PK-12 TESOL Endorsement within 2 years.
- For WI only: Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid ESL teaching license for the grades they will serve (K-8) or hold a valid teaching license for grades K-8 and English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual Education endorsement. Minimally, candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway towards gaining licensure for the grades they serve (K-8) within three years and obtain an ESL endorsement within 2 years.
- Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory, second language learning patterns, and best practices in English language development.
- Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by the students and their families.
- Possesses those characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for multilingual families within the school.
- Read, analyze, and interpret student academic data.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers, administration, and families.
