Outdoor Power & Rental Sales

Hamshaw Outdoor Power & Rental in Keene, NH, is seeking a motivated, dependable, and hands-on Full-Time Sales & Service Associate to join our team. In this role, you will be helping contractors, DIYers, and local homeowners find the right machinery and products for their projects. You will manage rental reservations, demonstrate safe equipment operation, inspect tools upon return, and perform basic routine equipment maintenance. You will sell premium outdoor power brands like Stihl, Ego, Ariens, Bobcat and more.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Support & Sales

- Help customers determine the proper equipment, power tools, or lawn/garden machinery for their projects.

- Explain equipment operation, safety features, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and rental agreements clearly.

- Process rental contracts, check-ins, check-outs, and payment transactions accurately through the rental management system.

- Handle incoming calls regarding rental rates, fleet availability, and equipment specifications.

Equipment Maintenance & Fleet Care

- Inspect, clean, test, and service equipment before and after every customer use.

- Perform routine preventive maintenance (e.g., checking fluids, changing oil, replacing filters, sharpening blades, testing small engines).

- Identify equipment damage, log service records, and report major mechanical issues to store management.

- Keep the rental floor, staging area, and service shop organized, clean, and safe.

Operational Safety

- Safely load and unload heavy equipment into customer vehicles or trailers.

- Maintain compliance with store safety policies, manufacturer operation guides, and OSHA regulations.

- Assist in other store departments and general hardware retail tasks as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

- Experience: Experience in customer service, retail, or rental operations. Prior experience with power tools, light construction equipment, or small engine repair is strongly preferred.

- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable working with mechanical equipment and explaining tool operation to customers.

- Physical Capability: Ability to stand, bend, push, pull, and regularly lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.

- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with a helpful, friendly, and team-oriented approach.

- Computer Skills: Ability to learn and navigate point-of-sale (POS) and rental booking software.

- Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.
