Job Description

The Enrichment & Pre-K Aftercare Support Aide plays a vital role in supporting student safety, behavior management, and active engagement across multiple grade levels. Working part-time, Monday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM, this role bridges elementary enrichment instruction and early childhood aftercare support. From 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM, the Aide supports our Elementary School (K-2) Enrichment Dance program. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the Aide transitions to leading supervision and structured activities for our Pre-K aftercare program.

Key Responsibilities

- Elementary Enrichment Support (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM)

Serve as a dedicated classroom aide to the K-2 Enrichment Dance Teacher.
- Maintain active scholar oversight to ensure students remain safe, focused, and on task during dance instruction.
- Assist and lead orderly classroom transitions to and from the enrichment classroom.
- Proactively manage student behavior and address immediate student needs (including bathroom breaks and personal support) so the enrichment teacher can focus entirely on class instruction.

- Pre-K Aftercare Support (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM)

Supervise and monitor Pre-K scholars during the afternoon aftercare program.
- Ensure all scholars safely receive and enjoy their afternoon snack.
- Plan, organize, and execute engaging, age-appropriate activities to keep Pre-K scholars active, learning, and positively engaged.
- Maintain a structured, warm, and safe environment through daily student dismissal.

- General Duties

Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school.  
- Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior aligned with school culture.  
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.  
- Participate in annual staff orientation and school training sessions as required

Qualifications

- Drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of the classroom.  
- Evidence of self-motivation, willingness to be a team player, and a strong sense of personal responsibility.  
- Ideal candidates are hard-working, urgent, energetic, and willing to learn and adapt.  
- Flexible and comfortable managing dynamic classroom environments.  
- Strong time management skills and ability to multitask.  
- Strong organizational, communication (particularly with young children), and problem-solving skills.  
- Prior experience working with elementary or early childhood students in schools or community settings preferred.  
- Relentless commitment to the mission of educating urban students; belief in and alignment with Uncommon’s core beliefs and educational philosophy is non-negotiable.  
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree or coursework in Education/Child Development preferred.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is $18 per hour.
