Senior Clerk of Works

We are looking for a Senior Clerk of Works to join our dynamic and driven construction consultancy. In this role, you'll be working on-site amongst a team of varied professionals, ensuring construction work meets the appropriate standards for quality, regulations and H&S.

What does the role involve?

As a Senior Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for inspecting construction work to ensure it meets standards and health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

- Provide training and support to the wider Clerk of Works team
- Conduct additional research where required on more complex/new processes, materials and regulations
- Present research to the Residential and Compliance team and develop “best in class” procedures to roll out across multiple sites
- Provide leadership on larger projects where multiple Clerk of Works are required, leading by example and creating an inclusive and helpful environment
- Inspecting construction work and comparing it with drawings and specifications
- Measuring and quality checking building materials
- Identifying defects and suggesting ways to correct them
- Monitoring progress and reporting to construction managers, architects and clients
- Keeping detailed records of work including photographs of work, showing measurements where applicable
- Learning to use Field View and executing the above functions using the Field View software provided
- Liaising with contractors, engineers and surveyors
- Assisting contractors, engineers and surveyors with their use of Field View to record their observations and to mark tasks completed
- Preparing or assisting to prepare reports as required during the projects
- Communicating clearly and comprehensively and ensuring that the how, why, what, where and when is included in your communication
- Supporting requests or instructions by bundling photographs, drawings, sketches and explanatory text in ‘data packs’, to adequately describe and illustrate the element of work
- Checking that building regulations, health and safety, legal and ecological requirements are met
- Working on construction sites, sometimes on multiple construction sites
- Always take personal responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and others by working within company H&S procedures
- Endeavour to improve our social and environmental impact
- Any other duties as reasonably required

Requirements

- At least 5 years’ experience working in a supervisory role in construction
- Extensive knowledge of building and construction
- Highly organised with strong time management
- Reasonable competence in the use of a computer or hand-held device
- Thoroughness and attentiveness to detail
- Analytical thinking skills and mathematical competence
- Confident and approachable with customer service skills
- Ability to use your initiative, but also the awareness to verify with others when appropriate
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
- Ability to analyse quality or performance
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
