Position Summary
The Administrative Clerk (Bilingual Spanish) provides administrative and operational support to the Language Access Services department. This position is responsible for coordinating office activities, scheduling interpreter services through approved vendors, managing communications, assisting with departmental meetings, preparing simple reports, and supporting various clerical functions. The employee must be able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently and demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer, screen, and direct incoming telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner.
- Coordinate and schedule language interpreters through approved vendors and internal resources.
- Communicate effectively with patients, staff, vendors, and external partners.
- Assist with onboarding activities, and departmental documentation as assigned.
Perform other administrative and office support duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires knowledge of basic grammar and mathematical principles normally equivalent to a high school education.
Experience
- Work generally requires three months of clerical or general office support experience to become familiar with activities involved with providing routine clerical support.
- A minimum of one to three years of administrative, clerical, customer service, or office support experience is preferred.
- Experience working in a healthcare environment is preferred.

- Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish and English fluently.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including:
- Word
- Excel
- Outlook
- PowerPoint (preferred)
- General computer proficiency and the ability to navigate multiple software systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Regular interaction with employees, patients, vendors, and healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Training will be provided in departmental procedures, scheduling interpreter services, coordinating translation requests, Duke Health systems, and other responsibilities associated with the position.
