Onboarding and Orientation – 4GCardiology Unit:

The onboarding and orientation program is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to cardiac nursing care through a combination of classroom education, bedside training, and procedural area shadowing experiences.

During orientation, participants attend educational classes focused on various cardiac patient populations, including heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, structural heart patients, and other cardiovascular conditions. These sessions provide foundational knowledge of disease processes, cardiac monitoring, treatment modalities, and evidence-based nursing interventions.

Clinical orientation includes structured bedside training with experienced preceptors to develop competency in cardiac patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring, medication management, care coordination, and patient education. Hands-on experiences allow the orientee to apply classroom knowledge while caring for a diverse cardiac population in the clinical setting.

In addition, the program incorporates shadowing opportunities within cardiac procedural areas to enhance understanding of the patient care continuum.

Shadow experiences may include:Cardiac Catheterization LaboratoryElectrophysiology (EP) LabInterventional CardiologyThese observation experiences provide insight into procedural workflows, patient preparation and recovery, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advanced cardiovascular therapies.

The overall goal of the onboarding and orientation program is to build clinical competence, confidence, and a comprehensive understanding of cardiovascular care while supporting a successful transition into the cardiac specialty role.

A Day in the Life of a 4G Cardiac Nurse If you're looking for a nursing career that combines advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and strong teamwork, 4G Cardiology offers it all. Our patients include those recovering from procedures such as pacemaker insertions, cardiac ablations, cardiac catheterizations, and cardioversions, as well as patients with advanced heart failure and those supported by a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). The day begins with a unit huddle, where nurses, patient care technicians and charge nurses, come together to discuss patient needs, safety concerns, admissions, discharges, and unit priorities. This collaborative start sets the tone for the entire shift and highlights the teamwork that drives our patient care. Following huddle, nurses receive report on their assigned patients, reviewing diagnoses, procedures, medications, cardiac rhythms, and individualized care plans. The morning is spent performing comprehensive assessments, monitoring telemetry, administering medications, and ensuring post-procedural patients are recovering safely. Whether assessing a pacemaker site, monitoring a patient after an ablation, evaluating a cardiac catheterization access site, or caring for a patient after a cardioversion, cardiac nurses play a key role in recognizing changes and preventing complications. For patients with heart failure, nurses provide symptom management, medication administration, and education focused on helping patients understand their condition and avoid future hospitalizations. Caring for LVAD patients requires specialized expertise, including monitoring device function, assessing complications, and helping patients and families gain confidence in managing life with mechanical circulatory support. Throughout the shift, teamwork is essential. Nurses work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, case managers, and patient care technicians to coordinate care and achieve the best outcomes. Colleagues support one another by answering questions, assisting with procedures, helping during emergencies, and sharing their knowledge and experience. A cardiac nurse's day is fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding. Minimum Qualifications: Education / Experience: 1. *Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), AND A. 12 months of recent nursing experience within the past five years, OR B. Recent completion of a re-entry nursing program. OR, 2. Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with a minimum of 2 years of recent nursing experience within the past five years Exceptions: 1. *Current LPNs employed within the Emory Healthcare (EHC) system who have completed an accredited RN program and obtain RN licensure are eligible to transition into this role while completing the RN Resident Program. 2. Emory LPNs enrolled in an Emory ADN program as of 3/30/2025 must sign an obligation agreement to complete an ADN-to-BSN program within two years of entering the RN Clinician role. 3. Emory Warner Robins, Perry, and affiliated Physician group locations: Registered Nurse Clinicians holding an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) who were employed in the RN Clinician role prior to March 29, 2026, are grandfathered and are not subject to the BSN completion requirement. Effective March 29, 2026, newly hired or transferring RN Clinicians holding an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) and having fewer than two years of nursing experience must sign an educational obligation agreement requiring enrollment in an ADN-to-BSN program and completion of the BSN degree within two years of entering the RN Clinician role. Licensure: A valid, unencumbered Registered Nursing License approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing. Certification: 1. BLS certification 2. ACLS may be required for certain departments, post hire 3. Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty 4. If completing virtual care activities that may include multi-state practice, an active compact/multistate license (eNLC) is required within 60 days of hire. Employees in role prior to 11/09/2025 will have until their next renewal date to achieve compact status.
