GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Assistant Head Routesetter position is designed for someone who has proven to be a qualified and talented routesetter.  They need to have a robust and varied setting style allowing them to set a range of challenges for the community from training routes to complex, out of the box competition style climbing.

They will take on small leadership and mentorship roles and assist the Head Routesetter in day-to-day operations.  They may act as a supervisor when leadership is away, and are held to a high standard of creativity, quality, and are expected to work within a team of setters to provide an unparalleled climbing experience that is in line with Edgework’s mission and core values.

The Assistant Head Routesetter is a creative person, excited by the prospect of providing an amazing climbing experience to the Edgeworks community.  Driven by their passion to create unique movement, we are looking for someone who thrives in a team-oriented environment and has a can-do attitude.

The primary locations of this position are Bellevue - Crossroads and Bel-Red; however, Assistant Head Routesetters are expected to travel to other Edgeworks' locations based on company needs and at the discretion of the Head Routesetter.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant Head Routesetters are responsible for mentoring lower level setters, coordinating with the Head Routesetter on routesetting needs within the facility, and setting engaging boulders and rope routes in accordance with Edgeworks protocols

- Fulfill job functions of Level 4 and below Setters as needed

CORE FUNCTIONS:

- Collaborate with the Head Routesetter to accomplish department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department activities.

- Identify and communicate goals in areas including customer satisfaction, risk management, quality, and team member performance.

- Mentor other setters to foster growth through education.

ROUTESETTING AND FORERUNNING MANAGEMENT:

- Set creative, interesting, thoughtful, and varied movement experiences while ensuring Edgeworks Setting Standards, including Work-at-Height Standards, are upheld

- Follow established safety protocols and best practices at all times; provide recommendations to supervisors on possible facility-related or safety-related improvements

- Work collaboratively with the Setting team, forerunning routes within climbing ability and providing clear, actionable feedback to peers

- Wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) while working in accordance with Edgeworks Setting Safety Standards

- For applicable site(s): operate aerial boom lift in accordance with training and safety requirements

- Maintain sufficient physical condition to fulfill setting requirements, including 3-4 days of setting

- Help manage  route assortment in Plastick and ensure smooth user interactions via KAYA

- Assist Head Routesetter organize and run route setting related monthly socials, special events, and competitions

RISK MANAGEMENT:

- Ensure risk management policy compliance during setting including use of appropriate personal safety equipment

Ensure that routes minimize risk by design

- Make critical decisions when necessary for the well-being of customers, staff, and the facility, in such areas as safety and emergencies and customer experience

STAFF MANAGEMENT:

- Foster team camaraderie and cultivate culture of direct communication

- Lead by example and support the team in communicating clearly with one another

- Serve as a Edgeworks cultural example, consistently demonstrating and holding others accountable to Edgeworks Core Values

- Maintain consistent presence with team and serve as liaison between Setting Team and Head Routesetter, communicating issues and concerns to supervisor when appropriate

- Lead by example and maintain high standards for clean and organized workspaces

- Support team in managing time effectively, providing guidance for the team’s workflow and setting practices

- Demonstrate strong self-objectivity and desire to grow, regularly soliciting and processing feedback from the team

WALL MAINTENANCE/ INVENTORY:

- Assist the Head Routesetter in ensuring that walls, holds and equipment remain clean, functioning, and of high quality; making repairs or advising replacement as needed.

- Collaborate with Head Routesetter to regularly communicate about facility needs including, but not limited to; equipment, walls, or flooring.

OTHER DUTIES:

- Serve as Edgeworks representative, engaging with the community about climbing and routes as needed

- Other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

MUST-HAVES:

- Be at least 18 years of age

- High School Diploma or equivalent

- Be a compatible match with the Edgeworks culture

- Ability to seek and accept, as well as give, critical feedback in a professional manner

- The mentality of a team player and the ability to follow directions

- Understanding and ability to demonstrate climbing movement up to 5.13 and V7

- Ability to forerun lead routes, top rope routes, and boulder problems

- At least 3 years setting experience in a rope climbing gym

- Understand and follow Edgeworks’ Work at Height policies

NICE-TO-HAVES:

- USAC Certifications

- CWA Certifications

- Youth Boulder and Sport competition setting experience

- Experience operating an aerial boom lift

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
