Job Title: R&D Scientist I Job Description
The R&D Scientist I conducts chemical and physical analyses to support the development of manufacturable multisource pharmaceutical products. This role provides analytical support for the release of registration materials used in regulatory submissions and assists with analytical method validation and transfer activities. The scientist performs assigned analytical tasks within established timelines, ensuring full compliance with cGXP standards, standard operating procedures, and internal practices, while maintaining accurate, timely, and reliable documentation.
Responsibilities
- Perform sample preparation, including handling and processing of materials for analytical testing.
- Prepare and weigh standards accurately to support quantitative analytical methods.
- Carry out dilutions and wet chemistry techniques in accordance with written procedures.
- Conduct titrations, pH measurements, and viscosity testing as part of physical and chemical analyses.
- Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, NGI, and gas chromatography systems, following established methods and protocols.
- Support admitted dose and related pharmaceutical testing activities to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Execute chemical and physical testing of organic materials in support of product development and new product initiatives.
- Provide analytical support for registration lot release and pre- and post-regulatory submission activities.
- Follow work instructions, SOPs, and company practices to perform analytical tasks in a compliant manner.
- Document all analytical activities, observations, and results accurately, in a timely fashion, and right-first-time, ensuring data integrity.
- Adhere to written analytical procedures and identify execution challenges in analytical methods.
- Participate in troubleshooting activities to resolve method or instrument issues and improve analytical performance.
- Work collaboratively within a team of scientists at different levels to accomplish assigned tasks and project objectives.
- Manage multiple analytical tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Use scientific judgment and professional competency when working under supervision to interpret data and support decision-making.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally to share results, observations, and issues with colleagues and supervisors.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Laboratory experience, including experience gained through academic coursework and laboratory classes.
- Hands-on experience with sample preparation and dilutions in a chemistry or biochemistry laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in wet chemistry techniques, including titrations, pH measurements, and viscosity testing.
- Experience performing physical and chemical testing of organic materials.
- Ability to follow written analytical procedures, work instructions, and SOPs with attention to detail.
- Capability to work effectively in a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting and reporting analytical work.
- Capacity to work under supervision using sound scientific judgment and professional competency.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Laboratory experience outside of academia is strongly preferred.
- Experience with data acquisition software for analytical instruments is desirable.
- Exposure to research and development and new product development activities is beneficial.
- Familiarity with gas chromatography techniques and instrumentation is an advantage.
- Experience working in environments governed by cGXP or similar regulated standards is helpful.
Work Environment
The role is based in a state-of-the-art, very clean GMP laboratory environment organized into teams of Scientists I, II, and III who collaborate to complete project tasks while also working independently on individual assignments. The work schedule follows a Monday through Friday day shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Business casual attire is expected. The environment emphasizes teamwork, internal promotion, and ample opportunities for professional growth within pharmaceutical manufacturing and development.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
