Coder Lead

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Coder Lead, you will serve as a vital subject matter expert and mentor within our Revenue Cycle department. You will provide critical leadership by coordinating daily coding workflows, assessing production and quality standards, and acting as a key liaison between physicians and support staff. Your role is essential in troubleshooting complex billing issues, ensuring clinical documentation integrity, and maintaining adherence to government regulations while utilizing electronic health record systems like Epic.

Every day you will oversee the productivity of the coding team, which includes facilitating new hire training, shadowing, and conducting performance quality reviews. You will manage incoming coding volume and charge lag reporting, provide analytical insights to revenue cycle leadership, and monitor customer service work queues to resolve coding concerns. When needed, you will serve as a hands-on contributor, filling in for coding staff to ensure our clinic maintains operational excellence and seamless reimbursement cycles.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a relevant professional certification such as CPC, CCS, or RHIT, and possess 5–7 years of robust coding experience in a healthcare organization. You must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities for small and large group training, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Your commitment to detail, combined with your ability to relate well with staff at all levels, will ensure high-quality coding performance and continued professional development for your team.

Required

- Certified Professional Coder, upon hire or

- Certified Coding Associate, upon hire or

- Certified Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Coder, upon hire or

- Certified Professional Coder Hospital, upon hire or

- Radiology Certified Coder, upon hire or

- Registered Health Information Technician, upon hire

Preferred

- Associates Other in related field and 5 – 7 years coding experience in a health care organization ., upon hire and

- Completion of college level courses in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes and pharmacology, upon hire
