Software Development Engineer, Amazon Customer Service

Description

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to be an autonomous contributor to the next generation of self-service tools that will scale to serve our customers globally. You will own features end-to-end across the full software lifecycle — working backwards from customers, design, implementation, testing, deployment, operations, and documentation — delivering high-quality, maintainable code that others can confidently extend. You will take on projects where the business problem and technology strategy are understood but the implementation is not yet fully fleshed out, balancing constraints and limiting short-term workarounds. While the next-gen tools are built out, you will also help maintain and enhance the current solution stack, and you will mentor other engineers, using code review as a teaching mechanism.

Key job responsibilities
- Own features end-to-end across the full software lifecycle, from customer requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, operations, and documentation
- Work backwards from customer needs to develop high-quality, maintainable code that others can confidently extend and build upon
- Take on projects where the business problem and technology strategy are defined but implementation details require problem-solving and technical judgment
- Balance competing constraints and avoid implementing short-term workarounds that compromise long-term system quality
- Deliver scalable, high-availability solutions designed to serve millions of Amazon customers globally
- Maintain and enhance the current solution stack while contributing to the development of next-generation self-service tools
- Mentor other engineers through code review, using it as a teaching mechanism to build team capability
- Demonstrate customer obsession by building experiences that prioritize user needs and scalability
- Contribute to the design and architecture of self-service tools that scale globally
- Ensure code quality, performance, and reliability through rigorous testing and operational excellence

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
