Job Description
The Driver position is responsible for safely transporting structural steel materials to various vending and job sites in and around North Carolina. This position involves ensuring the safe loading and unloading of materials while securing them properly for transportation. Drivers will comply with all state, federal, and company regulations to meet safety and quality standards.
Essential Functions:
- Secure materials by means of chaining, strapping, and blocking under strict procedures
- Perform pre- and post- trip inspections; inspect the truck for defects and safe operating conditions, before, during, and after delivery trips
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks
- Complete DOT-required drivers' daily log and trip sheets accurately
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT Guidelines
- Knowledge of state regulations regarding weight standards
- Ability to maintain a clean driver’s record and diligent attention to safety
- Ability to work safely, wear required PPE, and participate in all safety programs
- Flatbed experience strongly desired
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to work effeciently in varying temperatures
- Be able to stand, walk, or climb for long periods of time
- Have the ability to lift and handle objects with weight of up to 50 pounds
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License with no restrictions - must be able to drive a manual
- DOT Physical Examination (medical card) and Drug Screening
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating a tractor-trailer and hauling materials on a flatbed
