Lead Endoscopy Technician

SUMMARY:

Through collaboration with and under the general guidance of the Clinical Manager and Clinical Lead RN, The Lead Endoscopy Technician will provide supervision of the Endoscopy Technician team.
Under the guidance of the Professional Nurse, Endoscopy Technicians provide direct patient care to the endoscopy patient. Assists the endoscopy team by positioning patients, assisting endoscopy team with procedures, preparing and cleaning instruments, infection control procedures and restocking of room and cart supplies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

pPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIIES:
Assists in coordinating staff meetings, including agenda development for Endoscopy Technician staff, disseminating meeting minutes to staff.
Provides timely/pertinent departmental updates and feedback to staff via e-mail and in person when deemed necessary.
Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Department of Health (DOH), and additional internal and external regulatory standards by rounding, role modeling, teaching and coaching.
Monitors compliance with Infection Control measures, quality indicators and environment of care standards. Updates policy and procedures and works in collaboration with infection control and other departments as deemed necessary.
Monitors proper scope reprocessing technique of endoscopy technician and nursing staff.
Exhibits understanding of the roles and responsibilities of team members and recognizes individuals for their contributions.
Maintains a mature attitude, facilitating open and positive communication with Endoscopy Technician staff, nursing personnel, and other health care professionals.
Works in partnership with the Clinical Manager and Clinical Lead RN on activities such as interviewing candidates, participating in hiring decisions, setting objectives, Assistance with annual performance recognition summaries and providing input for corrective action plans up to and including termination.
Collaborates with Clinical Manager and Clinical Lead RN in coordinating and overseeing orientation of newly hired Endoscopy Technicians.
Coordinates and oversees department specific in-servicing/educational requirements for Endoscopy Technician staff.
Provides consistent and continuous communication to leadership regarding any changes, concerns or updates related to staff or day to day operations.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Works under the supervision of the Clinical Manager, Clinical Lead RN, and Professional Nurse within Hospital and Endoscopy policies and procedures; ensuring standards of care, when possible, are evidenced based and endorsed by the SGNA. Acts as a resource for Endoscopy Technician team; realizing when to refer specific complex problems to leadership when clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
STANDARD CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Staff Nurse with all aspects of the nursing process including, but not limited to, assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data, following the nursing management plan, and monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions.
Prepares Endoscopy room in a timely manner with all anticipated supplies, instruments and equipment.
Assists with endoscopy procedures and anticipates physician needs
Maintains strict aseptic technique and a safe environment for patients and staff.
Checks all equipment and instruments for proper functioning prior to each procedure.
Demonstrates competence in care of specimens; follows procedure for care and handling of specimens.
Sets up cleaning room to perform activities. According to established instructions and aseptic techniques, cleans and disinfects endoscopes and accessories. Performs basic maintenance of
equipment, troubleshooting minor problems as appropriate, referring more complex repairs to the appropriate internal/external sources.
Tests disinfecting solutions daily to ensure effectiveness; adds or changes solutions as necessary
Assists in positioning of patients according to department procedure.
Cleans and prepares room between cases and after the last case; restocks as needed.
Cleans and prepares instruments and equipment for high level disinfection and/or sterilization.
Assists in the transport of patients to and from Endoscopy.
Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department policy and procedure.
Assists in the overall function of the Endoscopy unit under the direction of the Professional Nurse.
Ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Perform additional related duties as required.
ADDITIONAL CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors, prepares and maintains records and reports related to activities including equipment sent for repair and sterilization; solution testing/changing, audits etc.
Is an expert at and understands operation, function, and handling of equipment according to manufacturer 's recommendations.
Endoscopy Lead Technician, or designee, will assist with ordering and maintenance of supply inventory.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or equivalent. Current RI registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant or experience as an Endoscopy, Surgical or other relevant technical role preferred. Current certification in Basic Life Support Required. Completion the SGNA Associates Program required within 1 year of starting position.
Assumes responsibility for own personal growth, knowledge and competency, by participating in continuing education programs and sharing relevant resources with staff.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
EXPERIENCE:
2 years of experience as an Endoscopy, surgical or other relevant technical role in an outpatient procedural setting preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians ' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Ability to work under stress with moderate periods of sitting, walking, standing, and computer use. Position requires physical strength in moving, adjusting equipment, and assisting patients. Any hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions

Pay Range:
$22.04-$36.37
