German Language Instructor

ICA Language Services is seeking an experienced German Language Instructor to provide intensive language instruction at our facility in Rosslyn, VA. Instruction will be primarily conducted in person, with occasional online sessions as mutually agreed upon by the student and instructor.

Job Details

- Location: Rosslyn, VA (primarily on-site, with occasional online instruction)

- Assignment Length: October 2, 2026 – December 7, 2026

- Days: Monday–Friday

- Schedule: 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (with an additional 0.25 hours of paid preparation time for each hour of instruction)

- Training Goal: Development of ILR 3+ proficiency, with a particular focus on speaking, grammatical accuracy, and vocabulary expansion.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver intensive German language instruction aligned with I LR proficiency goals and FSI-style test preparation

- Provide advanced speaking practice designed to improve grammatical accuracy, fluency, precision, and active vocabulary

- Strengthen the student's ability to discuss complex, abstract, professional, and unfamiliar topics at the ILR 3+ level

- Reinforce advanced listening and reading comprehension skills in support of overall proficiency goals

- Use communicative, task-based, and proficiency-based instructional methods

- Develop and adapt instructional materials based on the student's proficiency level, individual needs, and progress

- Incorporate authentic German-language materials and activities appropriate for advanced-level instruction

- Administer practice assessments, quizzes, and other activities to monitor progress

- Provide targeted, constructive feedback and support independent language study

- Integrate classroom activities that simulate FSI testing formats and advanced task-based language use

- Under the guidance of the Language Training Supervisor, provide monthly reports documenting the student's progress

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in German, linguistics, education, or a related field

- Minimum of two years of experience teaching German to adult learners in an intensive setting (4–6 hours per day)

- Experience teaching advanced-level German learners, particularly at or approaching ILR Level 3 or higher

- Familiarity with the ILR proficiency scale and NFATC (FSI) testing protocols

- Ability to develop and adapt instructional materials and exercises aligned with proficiency and testing requirements

- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills

- Minimum ILR 4 or higher proficiency in German

- High proficiency in English sufficient for instruction, explanation, and feedback
