JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Research Scientist has demonstrated expertise in geospatial science, including Synthetic Aperture Radar/In Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR/InSAR), image analysis, hyperspectral remote sensing, photogrammetry, and image/signal processing, as evidenced by publications and prior research experience. This position plays a key role in both research and managerial efforts within the Remote Sensing Lab. This position is responsible for building collaborations, leading projects, and mentoring junior level team members. Additionally, this position will serve as an integrator and liaison, connecting diverse concepts within the lab and support the lab PI in external-facing efforts to drive growth and collaboration opportunities.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

- Identifies compelling scientific questions, designs and executes innovative experiments, and leads cutting edge research
- Participates securing external funding; develops grant proposals
- Serves as a liaison in the coordination of projects; supports interdisciplinary collaboration
- Drafts peer reviewed publications and project reports
- Processes and analyzes drone and satellite data (e.g., WorldView, Planet, SAR)
- Participates in field surveys and deploys calibration sites
- Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Deep understanding of administrative processes and a proven ability to navigate complex bureaucratic environments
- Strong background in remote sensing, image processing, and geospatial data collection and analysis
- Strong skills in processing and analyzing drone and satellite data (e.g., WorldView, Planet, SAR)
- Record of accomplishment of academic writing and publications
- Strong presentation and outreach skills, capable of effectively communicating with diverse, interdisciplinary audiences and stakeholders at various levels
- Proven ability to integrate interdisciplinary research concepts, identify and pursue funding opportunities from both academic and industry sources, and communicate effectively with diverse audiences
- Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, identifying areas for improvement and collaborating with team members to address gaps
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment on team-based research

​ MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Master’s degree in geospatial science, geography, earth science, or closely related fields such as computer engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, or technology
- Five years of related work experience
- Project management experience and external engagement
- Demonstrated experience in building collaborations, leading projects, and overseeing, and guiding team members

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- PhD in geospatial science, geoinformatics, geography, computer science, remote sensing, or related areas with strong geospatial skills
- Record of scholarly research and publications
