Labcorp is seeking a US based remote Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team!

Job Responsibilities:

The Sr. Bioinformatics Scientist is a seasoned, experienced professional with a wide range of experience who uses concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in a creative and effective way. Exercises judgment in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

- Lead complex technical projects requiring evaluation of identifiable factors
- Drive innovation in methods and tools through networking with key contacts
- Contribute to strategic planning by translating business needs into technical requirements
- Build cross-functional relationships to deliver tactical business targets
- Frequently advise others on complex matters related to bioinformatics and engineering
- Design and implement advanced bioinformatics solutions with substantial understanding of genomics and genetics
- Lead collaboration with molecular biology teams on assay development, including experimental design and analysis
- Drive regulatory compliance through analysis and technical writing for verification, validation, and documentation
- Develop and optimize complex analysis pipelines based on deep knowledge of bioinformatics algorithms
- Guide result interpretation and reporting standards, considering medical and commercial requirements
- Establish quality control metrics and procedures to ensure data integrity
- Drive improvements in accuracy, COGS, and turnaround time (TAT)
- Lead verification and validation efforts following compliance processes
- Interface with clinical and commercial stakeholders as consumers of bioinformatic data
- Evaluate genomic data to deliver a confident result for complex variants, and understand system limitations when a confident result is not possible
- Architect and implement complex software systems with deep understanding of languages, tools, and libraries
- Design systems and APIs that are maintainable, debuggable, and observable
- Establish development standards by providing quality feedback on designs
- Drive system reliability and performance improvements through
- appropriate metrics
- Lead technical design reviews for right-sized components
- Implement robust testing frameworks by working with team leads to set goals
- Guide technical architecture decisions for adjacent software systems
- Establish monitoring systems that support debuggability and observability
- Drive adoption of engineering best practices within and across teams

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree with 10 or more years of experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational biology or engineering, OR Master’s degree with 6 years of experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational biology or engineering, OR PhD with 4 or more years of experience in bioinformatics, molecular biology, computational biology, or engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

- 2 or more years of experience leading technical projects
- 2 or more years of experience in system architecture and design using BWA, GATK, Deep variance, Dragen, Nextflow, Python, SKLearn, SciPy, PyTORCH, CI/CID, or GitHub Actions

Additional Job Standards:

- Understanding of regulatory requirements in bioinformatics including regulatory compliance and documentation requirements
- Track record of identifying principled, robust, high-quality solutions to open-ended problems
- Understanding of bioinformatics algorithms and underlying statistical and probabilistic techniques
- Understanding of molecular biology underlying one or more products
- Strong background in selecting appropriate datasets void of assumptions and biases
- Project leadership abilities for complex issues requiring evaluation of variable factors
- Excellence in determining methods and processes on new assignments
- Strategic thinking in selecting methods, evaluating, and adapting complex techniques
- Stakeholder management expertise across scientific and engineering boundaries
- Advanced communication skills for persuading diverse stakeholders while delivering wider firm business messages

Pay Range: $140k - $160k annually (USD)

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data. The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.

Benefits:  Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.   Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.   Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
