Role:
The Business Banking Officer I is a self-sufficient, client-facing role responsible for managing a portfolio of small business members, developing new relationships, and delivering both lending and deposit solutions. This position is ideal for professionals with foundational experience in lending, credit, or financial services who are ready to independently manage production goals, deepen member engagement, and grow within the business banking function.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of small business members, acting as their primary point of contact for lending and deposit needs. Portfolio assignments may include a concentrated segment such as nonprofit organizations or defined geographical territories, based on business strategy and organizational needs.
Based on portfolio strategy and business needs, the role may be externally marketed under a segment-specific title to align with recruitment and outreach efforts. Such variations do not alter the internal job classification, pay grade, or essential responsibilities of the position.
- Identify and pursue new lending and deposit opportunities within assigned territory or portfolio.
- Perform initial credit assessments, including reviewing financial statements, and preparing loan requests.
- Coordinate with credit and loan administration to facilitate loan approvals, closings, and post-closing follow-up.
- Meet or exceed established individual production and portfolio growth goals.
- Respond promptly to member inquiries and provide consistent high-quality service.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation, pipeline records, and portfolio monitoring activities including renewals and reviews.
- Participate in community and networking events to promote Mazumas small business offerings.
- Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
- Follow established company policies and procedures, including but not limited to Sarbanes Oxley controls, Business Ethics and Standard of Conduct, Electronic Communications, Confidentiality and Privacy.

Knowledge and Skills:
Required Experience:
- Minimum 1-2 years in small business or commercial lending, loan operations, credit support, or financial services sales.
Preferred Experience:
- Basic knowledge of credit administration and credit quality.
- Demonstrated understanding of basic financial accounting and analysis.
Education:
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree in a related field
Other Skills:
- Working knowledge of credit principles, business loan structures, and financial statement analysis.
- Self-motivated and goal-oriented with the ability to manage work independently.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use CRM and loan origination systems effectively.
- Commitment to member service and continuous learning in business banking.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel frequently within the KC Metro area. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while visiting prospects and members, attending networking events, trade shows, or making sales calls. May be required to lift, carry, and transport materials up to 25 lbs. Must be capable of working in various environmental conditions, including exposure to outdoor elements. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer, tablet, telephone, copier, printer, scanner, and calculator. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
Work Environment:
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal noise. Valid drivers license required.
