Overview <div>The future of software development will be shaped by AI agents that can understand, reason about, and safely evolve complex codebases. The Engineering Horizons team is building platforms, infrastructure, and developer experiences that enable engineers and AI agents to work together with confidence across the largest and most complex software systems. </div><div>We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and deliver code intelligence, validation, and agent-driven engineering capabilities. You will work with engineers, scientists, and product partners at the intersection of distributed systems, applied AI, software engineering productivity, and developer tooling. We believe strongly that a diverse team that applies empathy and leverages high-quality communication skills helps us deliver superior products and is key to our success. </div> Responsibilities <div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Design, implement, test, and maintain scalable services, data pipelines, and developer infrastructure that support code understanding, semantic analysis, validation, and AI-assisted software engineering experiences. </li></ul></div><div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Own the design and delivery of significant features or system components, making appropriate engineering tradeoffs across reliability, performance, security, maintainability, and delivery needs. </li></ul></div><div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Collaborate with scientists, product managers, and engineers to translate emerging AI capabilities and customer requirements into reliable production systems. </li></ul></div><div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Contribute to technical designs and architecture discussions, identify dependencies and risks, and help the team make informed implementation decisions. </li></ul></div><div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Improve the quality and operational health of services through monitoring, telemetry, debugging, root-cause analysis, automated testing, and engineering best practices. </li></ul></div><div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Work with partner teams to integrate code intelligence and validation capabilities into developer tools, repositories, build systems, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. </li></ul></div><div><ul style="list-style-type: disc;"><li>Share technical knowledge, participate in design and code reviews, and mentor other engineers through hands-on collaboration and engineering guidance. </li></ul></div> Qualifications Required Qualifications: <ul><li>Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python<ul><li>OR equivalent experience. </li></ul></li></ul>Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:<ul><li>Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years</li></ul> Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>Experience designing, building, testing, and supporting production software or software-based services. </li><li>Experience with distributed systems, cloud services, developer platforms, data-intensive systems, or software engineering infrastructure. </li><li>Experience contributing to technical designs and delivering software features or components through the complete development lifecycle. </li><li>Ability to work independently in highly ambiguous scenarios. </li><li>Experience with AI assisted software development. </li><li>Experience with large language models, agentic systems, retrieval systems, or code-generation technologies. </li><li>Experience with static analysis, code indexing, semantic search, repository intelligence, source-control platforms, CI/CD systems, or software validation. </li><li>Experience building or operating reliable, data pipelines, developer tools, or engineering productivity systems. </li><li>Experience using telemetry, testing, evaluation methods, or operational metrics to improve software quality and system reliability. </li></ul><div> </div><div> </div> Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
