Global Engineering Services (GES) Operations Engineering (Ops Eng) is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Sr. Industrial Design Engineer to lead the initiative of developing and delivering next generation, world-class sortation and transportation systems. This position will have a direct impact on both design and process design engineering for GES, supporting the Concept Development & Design Team with retrofit designs for First Mile and Middle Mile projects, as well as controls & solutions development for future programs.

We're looking to add a high-impact engineer to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our fulfillment, sortation, and distribution systems. Your projects may include green-fields, brown-fields, and retrofits — spanning highly automated fulfillment centers, cross-dock facilities, and transportation centers. Projects will be a variety of template-based and designed-from-scratch, along with end-to-end ownership of Process Designs complementing each design effort.

You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Our team works on hundreds of projects each year. You will be challenged; you will learn; you will work on high-impact, high-visibility projects; you will grow.

This role requires up to 25% travel (regional and global) and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Key job responsibilities
- Develop innovative solutions to solve internal customers' challenges at low capital expenditure that are safe for associates and deliver high productivity.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective designs for the fulfillment, sortation, and transportation network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
- Deeply understand the business and technical requirements of product integration from mechanical, electrical, and controls functions; evaluate solutions and make decisions that balance business value and technology risk.
- Help customers and engineering teams make appropriate trade-offs by considering the larger picture (e.g., business goals, throughput expectations, quality requirements, efficiency, maintainability, operability).
- Identify standards and drive consistent application of engineering changes across North America.
- Build strong working relationships with Fulfillment Center (FC) and Sort Center leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites, including Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, and Process Engineering stakeholders.
- Data mine and transform raw thoughts into clear technical documentation; demonstrate effective communication skills with the ability to execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.

About the team
Concept Engineering owns the front-end design development for First Mile retrofits. The pillar analyzes customer and operational challenges to define equipment requirements, develops high-level layouts to shape initial design solutions, identifies appropriate equipment and builds end-to-end process flows around building constraints, and collaborates with procurement teams to develop Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to source and execute projects.
Firm Engineering owns mechanical firm design for First Mile retrofits Middle Mile POR and Retrofits designs. The pillar also provides electrical, controls, and software integration support across all First and Middle Mile building types.

Basic Qualifications

- 5+ years of design & innovation, research & development work experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a foreign equivalent
- Experience with design & innovation and research & development
- Experience in management of engineering design projects
- Experience using business or technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software

Preferred Qualifications

- 5+ years of specialty (with progressive responsibility) experience
- Master's degree in Engineering (any domain), Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
- Knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, electronic system design, and decision making
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high-speed manufacturing
- Experience with design-in-safety

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
