Structural Steel Fitter – Richmond, VA

Location: Richmond, VA
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift Available
Pay: Up to $28/hour, based on experience
2nd Shift Differential: Additional $3/hour
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter for a fabrication shop. This position focuses on preparing and assembling structural steel components, using shop drawings and measurements to ensure accurate fit, alignment, and final assembly.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications .
- Lay out, measure, mark, position, and fit structural steel components.
- Prepare steel parts for fabrication and assembly.
- Align and secure components according to drawing dimensions and specifications.
- Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch .
- Monitor measurements and component placement throughout the fabrication process.
- Inspect assemblies for proper dimensions, alignment, fit-up, and overall workmanship.
- Identify and correct fitting or alignment issues when necessary.
- Coordinate with supervisors and other shop personnel to meet production requirements.
- Keep tools, materials, and work areas clean and organized.
- Follow established safety procedures and shop requirements.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication .
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings .
- Hands-on experience with steel fitting, alignment, positioning, and assembly.
- Ability to set up and operate a track torch .
- Familiarity with welding methods, fabrication machinery, and common shop tools.
- Strong measuring skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to produce accurate, quality work in a production environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a fabrication team.
- Commitment to safe work practices and an organized shop environment.
- AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
