We are looking for a Principal Program Manager to join our growing team in Amazon Shipping (SWA) organization! This position requires influencing across multiple teams, businesses, and senior leaders. The role requires a deep understanding of customer needs and thinking big about how we can make SWA experience for our shippers seamless and delightful. You have expertise in managing programs that span multiple VP organizations, operating independently in highly ambiguous environments where both the problem and the solution are undefined. You are a strategic thinker who connects technical improvements to business outcomes.

Key job responsibilities
We are seeking an innovative, intellectually curious, results-oriented Principal Program Manager to drive broad cross-organizational, cross-regional, critical programs and charter level portfolios in our organization. The Principal PM will operate with complete autonomy and will be in charge of handling all aspects of technical projects within the SWA organization such as Shipper support, Billing & Payment, Claims and Delivery experience domains.

As a Principal Program Manager, you will
• Own and drive complex programs and portfolio, stakeholder relationship, program governance, and end-to-end program lifecycle.
• Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, evaluate options and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role. You should also have the ability to coach, and mentor individuals; build a strong cross-functional organization. Be a champion of operational excellence and establish team metrics for that excellence; including a consistent, regular process for assessment and improvement. Represent the technical organization and evangelize the work to senior leadership. Raise the bar on program management excellence, show thought leadership, and communicate well to different audiences.
• Collaborate and influence team members, product, engineering leaders and work with development teams and other business groups, and presenting projects to senior leadership on a regular basis. This includes building relationships and identifying with stakeholders across the organization.
• Compile, manage, and report on project and portfolio level metrics, post launch adoption, and be responsible for leading many high profile meetings to align on project requirements
• This position requires the ability to operate in ambiguous situations and think outside the box when our customers’ problems may not always have clear solutions. It also requires backbone to lead upward as it will drive program adoption with senior leadership and customers while demonstrating empathy in responding to evolving customer needs.
• Build consensus across VP organizations through effective narratives and presentations, representing complex operational and technical trade-offs clearly
• Manage executive-level escalations with excellent judgment, balancing operational constraints with business priorities
• Establish and own success metrics that connect operational and technical improvements to business outcomes
• Create mechanisms for continuous visibility and proactive risk identification and represent team in Monthly, Quarterly business reviews to translate operational metrics into business impact for executive audiences
• Quantify the business impact of product features, technical improvements and communicate ROI to leadership
• Team Development & Community Building, Drive knowledge sharing, build knowledge artifacts
• Amplify impact by creating and optimizing critical mechanisms that enable teams to deliver independently
• Actively develop the program management community through mentoring, promotion assessments, and knowledge sharing
• Raise the bar for program management excellence across Amazon Shipping
• Streamline processes and drive adoption of best practices across multiple organizations
• Use Generative AI for data analysis, generating insights on technical and business metrics, risks, dependencies and program status management

You'll collaborate closely with:
• Product Management teams defining capabilities and roadmaps, status
• Commercial teams driving enterprise shipper adoption and delivery SLAs
• Engineering organizations building support, claims, billing/payments and delivery tracking platforms
• Operations teams supporting global shipping networks
• Principal Engineers and Architects on technical decisions
• VP-level leadership across multiple organizations

The right candidate will possess a strong product/program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading large programs for software product development, and will have a good technology exposure. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done.

Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
- 10+ years of program or project management experience
- 7+ years of managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
- Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
- Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data and customer insights to drive decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience understanding needs of business and end customers and translating them into right solutions
- Demonstrated ability to build mechanisms that scale across multiple products, teams, or organizations.
- Experience working across product, engineering, operations and business in a large-scale technology environment.
- Experience delivering high impact projects within scope, time, budget and quality
- Leveraging GenAI for SDLC acceleration and actionable insights
