This role sits within the Payments and Fraud Prevention (P&FP) organization, whose vision is to make AWS the easiest and most trusted cloud to adopt and pay for, anywhere in the world. We deliver this through a reinforcing cycle: expanding customer access to drive adoption and revenue, empowering our internal teams, reinvesting in AI and automation for smarter fraud detection, and protecting the business in a way that enhances customer trust. This role is central to the "protect the business" pillar — keeping AWS safe to transact on while minimizing friction for legitimate customers.

You will lead a team of investigators, analysts, and specialists conducting complex investigations of fraud activity, while setting the strategic direction for how your team detects and prevents emerging fraud threats to AWS. You will drive related intelligence initiatives, shape investigative strategy, and stay at the forefront of trends and fraud issues impacting the cloud industry to ensure AWS is leading the curve in identifying, mitigating, and preventing fraud attacks.

As a Manager - Risk Investigations, you will manage a team of Investigation Specialists (and their leads), setting the vision, direction, and culture of the team by managing individual and team performance expectations and goals, providing coaching and one-on-ones focused on making our platforms safer to transact, improving customer satisfaction, monitoring real-time service levels and schedule adherence, and serving as an escalation point. Beyond running your own team, you will define long-term operational direction in areas of ambiguity, and influence and partner cross-functionally with AWS Payment and Fraud Prevention (P&FP) leaders, engineering, science, and Investigation Managers around the globe to ensure global operations run effectively and efficiently.

This position is full-time and may require shift work, including the possibility of working weekends.

Key job responsibilities
- Set the strategic direction and long-term vision for your investigations team, driving initiatives in areas where the path forward is ambiguous.
- Analyze, meet, and report on goals aligned to customer experience improvement, fraud operating-expense reduction, and service levels.
- Review and analyze performance metrics to identify areas of opportunity that drive performance improvement.
- Deliver business impact and contributions to AWS through quality, productivity, and customer-experience improvements.
- Demonstrate excellent time-management skills and the ability to work independently in situations with a high level of ambiguity.
- Develop the careers and skills of investigators by hiring the best, providing effective coaching, identifying growth opportunities, and implementing supplemental training.
- Identify the business impact of trends and make data-based decisions.
- Manage workflow, handle escalations, and proactively engage resources to address issues or challenges.
- Influence and collaborate cross-functionally with partner teams (P&FP, engineering, science, and global Investigation Managers) to shape and deliver program-level goals beyond your immediate team.
- Support hiring needs for the team and the broader organization.
- Plan and execute activities that recognize, motivate, and develop your team.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in conducting workplace risk investigations
- Experience leveraging technology to drive process improvements
- Experience managing direct reports
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

- CPA, CMA, CISA, CIA or equivalent risk, audit, or compliance credentials
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience working in a customer-facing environment
- Experience with physical security control and surveillance systems
- Master's degree or equivalent
