About the role

As an Application Engineer in the Power Conversion area, you will contribute to the design, development, and validation of complete power converter solutions, helping expand the value of ST products across the Industrial, Automotive, and Datacenter Infrastructure segments.

You will play a key role in the development of innovative digital solutions and advanced control algorithms at system level, supporting the growth of ST intellectual property and helping bring new products and technical solutions to market.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with customers, Divisional and Regional Application Labs, and internal stakeholders to support the development of next-generation power conversion systems, strengthen ST’s market position, and anticipate competitor solutions.

What you will do

In this role, you will:

- Design and implement power conversion projects such as demo boards, promotional tools, and reference designs, in agreement with the Power Conversion Manager.
- Use engineering tools such as OrCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, and AI-based design assistants to support project development.
- Contribute to the creation of new intellectual property, including patents, innovative system solutions, and new technical know-how.
- Investigate emerging application fields and help define technical specifications for new products.
- Support Divisional and Regional Application Labs in product definition, validation, and system-level testing.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support customer needs and application development.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing activities such as webinars, technical trainings, technical papers, and conferences.

Job requirements

We are looking for a candidate with the following background and skills:

- Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Ideally 1–2 years of experience in ST, including internships or trainee programs.
- Basic knowledge of power converter topologies and experience in converter design.
- Basic knowledge of the main technologies used in power electronics.
- Strong knowledge of control theory, supported by mathematical modeling for power converters at system level.
- Programming experience in the STM32 ecosystem for embedded firmware development, including CubeMX, CubeIDE, or IAR, with knowledge of C language.
- Basic knowledge of PCB layout and schematic design tools such as OrCAD or KiCad.
- Good IT skills, especially in the Microsoft 365 environment, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong knowledge of simulation tools such as MATLAB toolboxes, Simulink, Simscape, Simetrix, and SPICE.
- Basic knowledge of analog electronics and signal conditioning circuits.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instruments for application debug and testing, such as power supplies, power meters, oscilloscopes, and related tools.
- Strong technical writing skills for preparing documentation.
- A collaborative mindset, strong problem-solving attitude, and willingness to work in a team.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.

The expected salary range for this position is €35.000  – €45.000 gross annual salary (RAL), plus variable pay relevant for the role.

In accordance with the EU Pay Transparency Directive and applicable Italian legislation, this compensation range has been determined based on objective, gender-neutral criteria, including job responsibilities, required skills, relevant experience, qualifications, and market benchmarks.
