Provides Transport service to all hospital departments on the evening shift are coordinated in an efficient and timely manner. In addition, duties of the dispatcher are regularly performed.
Job Description:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Receives, documents, prioritizes, and coordinates the timely execution and completion of Transport Service requests on the evening shift. These requests are received via Meditech, telephone, and paging system.
2. Performs the duties of a dispatcher up to 80% of work time.
3. Maintains daily log sheets and activity sheets for Transport Service activities. Performs various quantitative studies as needed.
4. Serves as the primary contact person between Nursing Administration and the basement support service departments, including Transport Service, Dietary (after 7:30 p.m. only), Receiving, and Materials Distribution. Arranges for the delivery of services and supplies from these departments, such as preparation and delivery of late patient meals, and the replenishment of supplies and equipment.
5. Gathers data regarding evening Basement support service activities, and reports to the Transport Supervisor. Provides information to managers or directors of other basement support service departments as needed. Makes recommendations to improve evening service delivery.
6. Assists in training, developing, and evaluating employees. Provides input into performance reviews of transport employees.
7. Assists with scheduling for all shifts in the Transport Department.
8. Ensures adequate staffing on the evening shift, based on need. This includes calling other Transport Service personnel in to work in the event of sick calls or asking employees to stay beyond their regularly scheduled hours due to hospital need. within budgetary constraints and conveys this information to Supervisor.
9. Receives general direction from Transport Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Ability to read, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions. Basic arithmetic skills, normally acquired through the completion of high school education or equivalent. Ability to read and understand English.
2. Two years of hospital support service experience, including one year in a supervisory or lead capacity.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to delegate and follow up on employee assignments, and to deal effectively with all contacts.
4. Good organizational and time management skills.
5. Sitting, standing, walking, carrying, and pushing, but the level or degree is dependent upon shift (assist in lifting and moving patients less than 20% of time).
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Occasional exposure to some patient care areas and biological specimens.
2. May occasionally be required to push patients or lift heavy equipment.
Pay Range:
$18.00 - $24.23
The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
