The Role
We're looking for a true builder: an engineer who designs systems on a whiteboard, writes every line with intent, and understands their code deeply because they wrote it themselves.
This is a hands-on role for someone who loves the craft of software. You'll design and build core parts of our platform from the ground up, working without AI coding assistants such as Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude. We value engineers who reason from first principles, debug by understanding rather than guessing, and take pride in clean, deliberate work.
You'll report directly to the Engineering Head and have real ownership over how our platform is designed and built.
What You'll Do
Design systems from first principles. Architect scalable, secure services for our member and provider experiences. You'll sketch the data models, define the APIs, and think through failure modes before writing code.
Write code by hand, and write it well. Build features end to end in TypeScript, Node.js, and React. Your code should be readable, tested, and maintainable by the next engineer who opens it.
Design the user experience. Translate product needs into intuitive interfaces. You'll wireframe, prototype, and build UI components with attention to usability, accessibility, and detail.
Own quality and reliability. Write thorough automated tests, set up CI/CD pipelines, and work with Docker and Kubernetes. Review code carefully and raise the bar for the whole team.
Build with security in mind. Implement HIPAA and GDPR safeguards at every layer, since we handle sensitive health data.
Collaborate and mentor. Work closely with Product, Clinical, Operations, and Data teams. Share your knowledge with other engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions.
What We're Looking For
Strong fundamentals. Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, system design, networking, and databases. You can explain why a solution works, not just that it works.
Proven hands-on experience. 4+ years of professional software development, with a track record of shipping production systems you designed and built yourself.
Technical depth. Expertise in TypeScript/Node.js and React, relational and NoSQL databases, RESTful API design, and cloud-native development. Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Design sensibility. Comfort with UI/UX principles and tools like Figma, plus an eye for clean, functional interfaces.
A craftsperson's mindset. You enjoy solving hard problems yourself, read documentation and source code to learn, and debug methodically. You're comfortable working without AI coding tools and see that as part of doing the job well.
Clear communication. Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical teammates and document your work thoughtfully.
Nice to have: Experience with healthcare or regulated data (HIPAA, GDPR), or background in telehealth or e-commerce platforms.
