Position Summary

CHP has an exciting opportunity for a Jail-Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) and Early Access to Stabilization Services Licensed Mental Health Clinician position at the Monterey County Jail. The ideal candidate has competency restoration treatment, correctional healthcare, or acute behavioral health direct practice experience. The position is onsite at the Monterey County Jail (NO OPTION for remote work). Current CA clinical licensure in good standing required; dependently licensed clinicians will be considered. This role reports to the Monterey JBCT/ EASS Program Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Oversight of the JBCT and EASS Programs

- Serve as a contributing member of the multidisciplinary treatment team for JBCT and EASS patients in roles as clinician, treatment plan coordinator, case manager, and discharge planner

- Direct patient care for 11-patient co-ed jail-based competency restoration treatment program for incarcerated persons facing felony charges who have been found incompetent to stand trial for mental health reasons and are court ordered to treatment

- Direct patient care for an early access to stabilization services program with average census of 1-3 patients for incarcerated men and women facing felony charges who have been found incompetent to stand trial for mental health reasons and are court ordered to treatment

- Perform and document treatment plans, treatment team review notes, discharge summaries, and progress notes

- Provide individual and group therapeutic and psychoeducational services targeting competency restoration to JBCT patients

- Coordinate with health and correctional staff regarding patients’ mental health care

- Participate in educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients, security personnel, and healthcare staff

- Demonstrate knowledge of DSM-V-TR criteria and mental health practice standards

- Liaise with CA Department of State Hospital (DSH), Monterey Sheriff’s Office (MSO) and CHP corporate as indicated

- Ensure provision of services align with DSH, CHP and MSO policies and procedures and professional practice standards

- Additional direct practice components include individual and group psychotherapy and psycho education, risk assessment and management

Minimum Requirements

- Master's degree in social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, counseling, or related behavioral health field

- Active independent clinical licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD, PhD) in the state of California

- Dependently licensed clinicians will be considered

- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team

- Ability to obtain and maintain jail clearance

- Willingness to work within the jail setting (this position is NOT REMOTE)

Preferred Requirements

- Prior experience working in a competency restoration setting (jail-based, community or DSH) or acute behavioral health setting

- Experience working with seriously mentally ill patients

- Prior experience working with sworn staff (aka correctional officers)

- Working knowledge of the legal framework for competency restoration in CA

- Working knowledge of NCCHC Mental Health standards

Scope Clarification

This is a single-site licensed mental health clinician role. This is not a management or lead position. This is not a remote position.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and aligned with DSH, MSO and CHP budgetary agreements. Pay Range - $115,000 - $130,000k/year. The package includes a base salary and a comprehensive benefits package. More details are provided during the interview process.
