Works under the supervision of a foreman or other assigned supervisor. Analyzes, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds a variety of automotive, diesel and turf equipment (light and heavy), and related parts and units. Conducts advanced diagnostics on vehicles and /or equipment to determine nature and extent of damage or malfunction and performs specialized repairs. Removes, disassembles, and inspects units, such as engines, transmissions, etc. Performs various types of welding processes and techniques such as acetylene, forge, and temper in repairing vehicles, turf equipment and machinery. Repairs, overhauls, and replaces parts, such as carburetors, fuel injectors, alternators, distributors, pumps, pistons, rods, bearings, etc. Repairs and rewires electrical systems, such as ignition systems, lights, etc. Adjusts brakes, aligns front end on various vehicles (light and heavy). Replaces and repairs shock absorbers and hydraulic components as needed. Provides technical and safety instruction to personnel assigned to assist in the performance of assigned tasks.
Must have four (4) years’ experience as a truck mechanic. Must possess or obtain within twenty-four (24) months of employment and maintain a valid Class “B” Tennessee Commercial Driver’s License as a condition of continued employment and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug Testing Rules. Must possess and maintain the T-8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection (PMI) certification as a condition of continued employment. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certifications in Medium-Heavy Truck – T-2 Diesel Engines; T-3 Drivetrain; T-4 Brakes; T-5 Suspension & Steering: T-6 Electrical/Electronic System; T-7 Heating, Ventilation, & A/C is preferred.
