About this role
This is a student-facing, hands-on role combining student support, housing management, event/trip coordination, community building and emergency response , aimed at creating a safe, supportive, and enriching study abroad experience for IES Abroad students in Nice.
The position requires strong organizational skills, maturity, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to act as a mentor and resource for study abroad students.
The Student Life Assistant should be native or near-native fluency in both written and spoken French and English is required (B2 level).
The Student Life Assistant reports to the IES Nice Center Director and works directly with the Student Life Coordinator.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Housing Support
- Assist with student housing placements and assignments.
- Liaise with landlords regarding leases, payments, and damages.
- Conduct housing inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Help resolve housing issues and student complaints.
- Coordinate student arrivals, apartment transportation, and housing communications.
Student Orientation & Arrival
- Prepare student records, arrival information, and orientation materials.
- Support arrival day logistics and late-arrival arrangements.
- Help students with residency and administrative formalities.
- Lead neighborhood and city orientation tours.
Trips, Activities & Student Life
- Help organize field trips, excursions, and social events.
- Coordinate logistics such as transportation, bookings, and participant communications.
- Accompany students on trips as part of staff rotations.
- Encourage student engagement and suggest IES community-building and social activities, partners, or excursions.
- Help keep students up to date on important information about the city, including strikes, local holidays, important addresses, etc.
Student Support & Wellbeing
- Serve as a mentor and point of contact for students through their study abroad journey.
- Monitor student welfare and provide guidance on personal, academic, health, or adjustment issues.
- Maintain confidential student records.
- Assist students in accessing medical or mental health support when needed.
- Promote healthy student environment and assist students in building community each semester
Social Media
- Support Instagram content creation and online engagement.
- Help strengthen the visibility of IES Nice online.
Health, Safety & Emergency Response
- Participate in the emergency on-call rotation.
- Maintain emergency and medical information records.
- Support crisis response procedures and student safety initiatives.
Other Administrative Support
- Carry out additional projects and administrative tasks assigned by the Center Director or Student Life Coordinator.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification).
- Native or near-native fluency in both French and English (minimum B2 level).
- Ability to work effectively with students from U.S. colleges and universities.
- Strong interest in international education, intercultural exchange, and student affairs.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and confidently engage with groups of students in English.
- Proven mentoring, problem-solving, and student-support capabilities.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Flexible and reliable, with willingness to work outside standard office hours when needed, including occasional late afternoons, a couple of Saturdays per semester, and participation in an emergency on-call rotation.
Salary: €28,000 to €30,000 gross per year, depending on experience.
