THE OPPORTUNITY

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to reengineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. By providing meaningful pre-trial supervised release and post-conviction sentencing options, Brooklyn Justice Initiatives seeks to use an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life and avoid the harmful effects of incarceration.

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking a Director of Court Operations. Reporting to the Deputy Project Director, Program Administration, the Director of Court Operations is responsible for the overall management of Brooklyn Supervised Release’s Court Operations department, including alternatives to incarceration and supervised release. The Director of Court Operations will work very closely with other Brooklyn Supervised Release leadership daily operations are running smoothly. The Director of Court Operations will occasionally work evening/weekend hours.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:   
- Manage and provide weekly individual administrative supervision to Supervising Court Liaisons and Court Operations Manager;  
- Support and manage a team of Court Liaisons who support both day, night and weekend Supervised Release (SRP) court operations; 
- Manage the day-to-day court operations of the project site; 
- Develop and maintain relationships with court and external stakeholders, including prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, and other court staff;  
- Maintain relationships with community-based organizations;  
- Support development of, and co-facilitate, program trainings with court and external stakeholders;  
- Support the management of participant information in electronic databases and hard files;  
- Assist in the oversight of the reporting of progress and compliance of mandated participants to court stakeholders (including judges, defense, prosecutors);  
- Support in the operation and updating of data collection and management systems;   
- Co-facilitate biweekly Court Ops/Compliance departmental meetings, along with Director of Compliance;
- Lead recruitment and hiring efforts for candidates for hire in varied positions within the project site;  
- Develop and update training materials for new staff, and co-facilitate trainings on court operations;  
- Work closely with Clinical and Compliance leadership to coordinate daily court operations, including joint meetings between departments, and troubleshooting issues to inform and implement best practices;  
- Spearhead the implementation of a variety of court-related protocols, both internally and in collaboration with court stakeholders, to enhance the court operations department;  
- Maintain and update court operations department manual on an ongoing basis to reflect changes in policies or protocols;  
- Assist Project Director with the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and/or interventions;
- Attend, and at times, facilitate required staff meetings and trainings;  
- Assist Project Director with grant management and grant writing; 
- Participate in site visits as a representative of the Court Operations department;
- Attend Brooklyn Supervised Release events after hours and on weekends, as needed; and
- Additional relevant tasks, as needed.

Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree with minimum of 7-8 years of experience with supervisory experience is required, Masters degree preferred;
- Experience in a court or criminal justice setting required; 
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred;
- Candidates must be willing and able to work collaboratively with a variety of court personnel and on-site partner agencies in a high-pressure/fast paced work environment;  
- This work is an incredibly unique and demanding area of practice, and candidates must be open to constructive engagement with differing and, at times, competing perspectives; 
- Experience with drug/alcohol treatment, mental health services, co-occurring disorders, adolescent development, trauma-informed and strength-based approaches preferred; 
- Candidates must have the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds in a culturally-responsive manner; 
- Candidates must be comfortable working with adolescents, adults and families; and
- Highly organized, excellent time management skills, and strong writing ability required.

Position Type: Full-time.

Position Location:  Brooklyn, NY.

Compensation:  The compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $122,000 and is commensurate with experience.
