Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and ICU team in Birmingham, AL. This is an opportunity to work alongside a collaborative team providing advanced emergency and critical care while continuing to build your technical skills in a specialty veterinary hospital.

Schedule

- Full-time

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Technician on our Emergency and ICU team, you will help provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced specialty and emergency environment. Responsibilities may include:

- Provide hands-on nursing care and monitoring for emergency and hospitalized patients
- Assist with patient assessment, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures
- Safely restrain and handle patients using appropriate techniques
- Perform phlebotomy and venipuncture and assist with IV catheter placement
- Assist with diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, laboratory testing, and other clinical procedures
- Perform accurate drug calculations and administer medications as directed
- Monitor patients closely and communicate changes in patient condition to the medical team
- Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and team members
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked patient care environment
- Work collaboratively with Veterinary Technicians, assistants, doctors, and other hospital team members

Qualifications

- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant in general practice or emergency medicine
- LVT certification is prioritized
- Working knowledge of basic veterinary medicine, including restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, venipuncture, anesthesia, drug calculations, laboratory equipment, and laboratory procedures
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy emergency and ICU environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both clients and veterinary team members
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a positive, respectful, and supportive hospital culture
- Commitment to continued learning and developing advanced Veterinary Technician skills
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.
