Legal Officer – Erroneous Transfers & Court Process Operations

About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and analytical Legal Officer to join our Litigation & Dispute Resolution team. In this role, you will serve as the primary legal driver managing court processes, bank-to-bank dispute notices, motions on notice, and judicial orders relating to erroneous transfers, mistaken deposits, and disputed merchant transactions.

You will ensure that the internal NIP/Operations complies with judicial directives while protecting the institution from third-party liabilities, regulatory sanctions, and fund dissipation risks.

Key Responsibilities
 
- Court Orders & Process Management: Review, log, and analyze all court orders (ex-parte, motions on notice and court orders for reversal of funds) served on the company regarding erroneous transfers or disputed wallet funds.
- Lien & Hold Enforcement: Coordinate with internal NIP, Operations, and Compliance teams to ensure immediate, precise execution of post-no-debit (PND) restrictions or liens on subject-matter wallets upon receipt of legal notice.
- Lifecycle Monitoring & Unfreeze Overrides: Monitor the lifecycle of pending litigation to ensure temporary holds on disputed funds are maintained in compliance with the doctrine of lis pendens until formal court resolution, preventing premature automated release of funds.

Key Requirements & Qualifications
 
- Education: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Call to the Nigerian Bar (B.L).
- Experience: 2–4 years of post-call experience in corporate litigation, banking operations legal support, or a fast-paced fintech environment.
- Domain Knowledge: Deep practical understanding of Nigerian civil procedure, garnishee proceedings, lis pendens, CBN guidelines on instant interbank transfers (NIP), and anti-money laundering (AML/CFT) frameworks. \
- Technical & Process Skills: Ability to analyze transaction logs, account histories, and bank statements alongside complex court affidavits.
- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with internal tech/NIP teams, and executive management.
- High Integrity & Sound Judgment: Strong problem-solving capabilities with a high level of discretion in handling sensitive financial data and law enforcement requests.
