About this role

The Director of Law School Admissions and Recruitment is primarily responsible for assisting the Assistant Dean of Admissions, and in consultation with University Communications, in the planning, implementation and assessment of all recruitment activities which lead to the admission and enrollment of highly qualified professionals for the School of Law at St. Mary's University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Assists Assistant Dean in developing and executing a strategic plan for recruitment in three parts: prospects, applicants, and admits (yield)

- Reviews and makes decisions on applications for admission to the JD program

- Assesses the success of attending recruitment fairs and forums using appropriate data, develop the plan for attendance at such recruitment events, and travel representing St. Mary's at those events

- Develops personal relationships (and strategies for institutional bonds with) pre-law advisors and members of the community who feed the recruitment pool

- Develops recruitment committees (student volunteers, alumni volunteers, faculty, and others) to assist in the recruitment effort

- Trains those involved in recruitment efforts supporting the law school

- Assists in developing communications strategies and messages for marketing

- Works with Director of Pipeline Programs to design and implement pipeline programs targeted toward early college, high school, and primary school students.

- Designs and implements the social media platform for the admissions office

- Designs and coordinates on-campus open houses and admitted student programs

- Develops appropriate surveys to collect data important to future planning for admissions and recruitment

- Ensure branding is maintained in recruitment efforts

- Displays initiative in learning about recruitment practices at other law schools

- Speaks on panels and at information sessions about topics related to legal education, St. Mary's Law, admissions, etc., and to audiences ranging in size but that may be quite large

- Represents the Law School to community groups at professional functions, college and university events in Texas, and other association sponsored events nationwide

- Contacts all admitted students and meets individually with prospective students on and off campus to provide admissions council and guidance

- Assists in the achievement of annual enrollment goals

- Works with entire admissions team to handle prospective student phone calls and emails

- Assists in supervising the front desk staff in the office, as needed

- Supervises the student workers and student recruitment volunteers

- Coordinates with the Office of Law Advancement spring receptions for admitted students in several Texas cities

- Maintains yearly contact with Texas college and university pre-law advisers, clubs and associations to arrange individual visits to those campuses

- Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree required, J.D. or other advanced degree preferred.

- 2-3 years experience preferred in higher education, professional, or graduate school environment a combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance

- Must have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance; or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis

- Must be able to work extended hours or weekends and able to travel regionally and nationally for extended periods of time during peak times and for special programs, projects, and events

- Must have the ability to demonstrate advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, outlook, and PowerPoint), Teams, Zoom, or similar online/virtual meeting platforms. Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, enterprise systems (Banner or similar program) to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.

- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong public relations and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; ability to work effectively with communities across the university

- Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team; professional demeanor, appearance and strong work ethic required

- Must have a high attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines

- Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

- Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.

- While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.

- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

- Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.

- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
