Responsibilities:

 JOB SUMMARY
The Cardiac Device Specialist (CDS) provides advanced technical and clinical support within Cardiac Electrophysiology and Rhythm Management. The CDS functions as a specialized cardiac rhythm diagnostics professional responsible for independent analysis, interpretation, programming, and management of Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs) across multiple manufacturer platforms.

This role requires advanced knowledge of electrophysiology, cardiac anatomy and physiology, arrhythmia recognition, and device diagnostics. The CDS performs complex in-office and remote device evaluations, interprets intracardiac electrograms (IEGMs), assesses arrhythmia burden, identifies device malfunctions, and applies protocol-driven clinical judgment to determine appropriate escalation and provider notification.

The CDS directly supports revenue-generating services, ensures CMS-compliant documentation and billing integrity, and plays a critical role in identifying potentially life-threatening arrhythmias and device-related complications. Management of CIEDs is performed under the direction of the Device RN Manager and/or Electrophysiology Provider.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform Advanced CIED Evaluations
Conduct comprehensive device interrogations including pacing/sensing thresholds, lead impedance analysis, battery longevity assessment, arrhythmia diagnostics, and therapy review.
Interpret intracardiac electrograms (IEGMs) and discriminate arrhythmias using advanced electrophysiologic principles.
Troubleshoot device and lead malfunctions and perform multi-platform device programming (Abbott, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Biotronik, etc.) according to established protocols and best practice standards.

- Independently Manage Remote Monitoring Workflows
Review and triage daily remote monitoring alerts, applying risk stratification and protocol-driven clinical judgment.
Identify clinically significant arrhythmias, inappropriate therapies, lead alerts, and heart failure diagnostics.
Determine urgency of provider escalation and ensure timely communication.
Process, document, and close remote transmissions in compliance with departmental standards and CMS billing requirements.

- Clinical Decision Support & Escalation
Communicate abnormal findings and device concerns directly to EP providers with appropriate clinical interpretation and recommendations.
Notify patients of abnormal findings and coordinate follow-up care.
Escalate complex cases beyond scope of practice to Device RN Manager or EP Provider appropriately.

- CIED Advisory & Safety Management
Maintain knowledge of current manufacturer advisories, recalls, and safety communications.
Implement recommended follow-up protocols and patient notification procedures.
Support peri-operative and MRI CIED management in collaboration with providers.

- Revenue & Documentation Integrity
Submit accurate billing codes for in-office and remote device evaluations.
Ensure documentation meets regulatory and CMS compliance standards.
Maintain data integrity within manufacturer remote monitoring systems and the electronic medical record (EMR).

- Patient Education & Care Coordination
Provide patient education regarding device function, alerts, therapy changes, and follow-up plans.
Perform post-operative wound assessments as appropriate.
Triage patient calls related to device concerns and collaborates with providers for resolution.

- Cross-Campus Support
Travel to satellite clinics as required to maintain continuity of CIED services.

EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Associates or Bachelor's in Healthcare related field Preferred

EXPERIENCE
- 2 years, experience in cardiac rhythm interpretation, telemetry, or electrophysiology-related clinical setting Required
- 2 years, experience in cardiac device management including in-office interrogations and remote monitoring Preferred

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Certification, Required
- 12-Lead ECG competency or equivalent documented arrhythmia interpretation experience Required
- International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) Certification - within 2 years of hire Preferred
