About this role
The Stem Cell Transplant Unit at UVA Health is a specialized 15-room intermediate care unit dedicated to Cellular Therapy, Stem Cell Transplantation, and recovery. Nurses on this unit care for patients with hematologic malignancies and other complex conditions requiring advanced cellular therapies, including HSCT and CAR-T treatments.
With a supportive 1:2 to 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio on both day and night shifts , nurses are able to provide highly specialized, patient-centered care while developing expertise at the forefront of hematology-oncology nursing.
Patients on this unit receive cutting-edge treatments and benefit from a compassionate, multidisciplinary team focused on delivering exceptional outcomes throughout every stage of the transplant journey.
Lead a Specialized Team and Make a Lasting Impact
As an Inpatient Charge Nurse , you'll combine your clinical expertise with leadership skills to support both patients and the nursing team in this highly specialized environment. This role is ideal for experienced nurses who enjoy mentoring colleagues, coordinating care, and helping teams succeed while remaining actively involved in clinical practice.
You will serve as a key resource for staff, facilitate daily operations, and help ensure safe, high-quality care for patients undergoing complex cellular therapies and stem cell transplantation.
What You'll Do
· Lead daily unit operations to support safe patient flow and exceptional care delivery.
· Coordinate staffing and resources based on patient needs.
· Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing team members.
· Support care escalation and operational decision-making.
· Facilitate team communication and collaboration across disciplines.
· Promote a positive, productive, and patient-focused work environment.
· Support patient rounding, service recovery, and patient experience initiatives.
· Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
· Help foster a culture of accountability, learning, and clinical excellence.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire.
Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
The pay range for this role is $47.23 - $62.15 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
