Certified Police Officer (51254)

JOB SUMMARY : The Police Officer performs law enforcement duties within Kiowa Indian Country as defined in Title 18 United States Code Section 1152 to preserve and protect life and property of lawful citizens. Responds to dispatch calls to investigate, apprehend, arrest and detain under authority of Title 25 CFR Criminal Statutes; Kiowa Tribe Criminal Codes; and Applicable Federal States Statutes. Also provides community policing to build a positive law enforcement presence in the area serviced. This position will be highly trained in responding to sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence dispatch calls. Additional benefits provided to Kiowa Tribe police officers include take home vehicles, uniforms, weapons, ammo, and other equipment needed to perform their duties.

RESPONSIBILITES:

- Responds to dispatch calls (emergency and non-emergency). Documents services provided for tracking and data reporting. Executes general and special assignments in the department operations and activities.

- Maintains a continuing knowledge of the department policies and procedures and assists in the identification of specific procedures, rules and regulations requiring revision or clarifications.

- Maintains the activity reports of all Law Enforcement services and initiates incident reports as required.

- Knowledge of how complaints from the public concerning policing activities are received.

- Cooperates with the other agencies in promoting timely and effective Law Enforcement Service support in day-to-day operations, and in natural disasters.

- Works in a train the trainer capacity to provides sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence training to other officers.

- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.

- Graduate from the Indian Police Academy or be a currently certified CLEET officer.

- Degree in Criminal Justice or related career field is desired, but not mandatory.

- Must be at least 21 years of age.

- Knowledge of Law Enforcement procedures and regulations and preferably Indian Country Training.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must pass a pre-employment background screening and a pre-employment agility test to ensure job suitability. A pre-employment physical may also be requested. No felony convictions allowed.

- Must be willing to submit to and pass drug testing and have good moral character.

- Must possess a valid drivers license and be insurable under the Kiowa Tribes motor vehicle insurance.

- Have knowledge in the principles, methods, and procedures of Law Enforcement activities.

- Must be capable of receiving and maintaining professional working relationships with peers, subordinates, supporting agencies, and tribal community.

- Must be able to work a flexible 24/7 rotating shift and on-call as needed.

- Be available to travel for training and travel for work assignments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Work conditions require responding to emergency, natural or man-made disasters, and routine peace keeping environments with travel to various locations to attend meetings or respond to major crime scenes, disasters or critical incidents; the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions when responding to calls.

- Physical demands require the ability to work in an office or ride in vehicles for prolonged hours, sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting or be able to physically protect oneself during an attack.

- Vision in the normal range with or without correction.

- Hearing in the normal audio range with or without correction.
