Job Summary

The Toddler Assistant Float position provides essential support to two different toddler classrooms throughout each day, ensuring seamless transitions and continuous care for the children. The Assistant Float will assist Lead Teachers and other Assistants by moving between classrooms to ensure smooth operations, support children's needs, and help maintain a clean and organized environment in both settings. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about early childhood development, enjoys working in a team, and is dedicated to meeting toddlers' emotional, physical, and social needs. Flexibility, adaptability, and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role.

At the Montessori Academy of Colorado we provide an Adaptive Workweek schedule for our Nido and Toddler Communities. This benefit allows for an adjusted working day or working week depending on position. This Toddler Assistant Float position is scheduled for 7.25 hours per day, five days per week. The hourly rate is adjusted upward so your weekly earnings are equivalent to a full 40-hour workweek. For example - while this position is posted for $21.30–$24.30 per hour, it is our Adaptive Workweek schedule adjusted rate, equivalent to $19.30–$22.00 per hour at 40 hours/week.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide dynamic support across two toddler classrooms daily, assisting Lead and Assistant teachers in both rooms with maintaining a prepared Montessori environment and classroom routines

- Assist with implementing lesson plans in both classrooms, adjusting to the unique needs of each group of children and ensuring developmental goals are met

- Actively engage with children in both classrooms, fostering a language-rich environment and supporting their social and emotional growth

- Assist toddlers with personal care tasks such as toileting, feeding, dressing, and washing in both classrooms, ensuring every child receives appropriate care and respect

- Balance responsibilities between the two classrooms, prioritizing tasks based on the immediate needs of the children and staff in each space

- Communicate professionally with parents as needed, updating them on their child's progress and interactions in both classrooms

- Encourage independence in toddlers by supporting them in developing new skills while ensuring they have appropriate guidance and assistance across both environments

- Respond quickly and attentively to children’s emotional or physical needs, ensuring they feel secure and comforted regardless of the classroom setting

- Supervise children during outdoor play, helping manage transitions between classrooms and ensuring safe, stimulating activities for all toddlers

- Stay actively engaged and focused during daily transitions, such as moving between work cycles, outdoor play, meals, and nap time in both classrooms

- Assist in keeping both classrooms and shared spaces clean, orderly, and safe by performing regular cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed

- Collaborate effectively with Lead Teachers in both classrooms and other team members to ensure a positive, inclusive work environment

- Participate in weekly team meetings to share observations and discuss strategies for supporting children in both classrooms, contributing to their overall development

Qualifications

- Must be at least 18 and have one of the following:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

- A 2-year college degree in child development or early childhood education from an accredited college or university or actively pursuing a degree

- A current certification as a Child Development Associate (CDA) or Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) or another Department-approved credential

- Qualify as a professional child care assistant through a combination of hours and verifiable experience in a professional child care setting

- Experience working with Primary aged children (1.3-2.5 years old) in a classroom setting

- Professionalism, including attendance, positivity, and flexibility

- Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interface with students, parents, faculty, and staff

- High-energy and enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment

- Criminal background check required upon hire
