Senior Data Recoverability Engineer (Data Governance)

Your Team's Impact

The candidate will be part of the ITDR Team in RE - Reliability Engineering supporting Core Infrastructure.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented ITDR Data Recoverability Engineer to join our IT Disaster Recovery program. Reporting to the ITDR Data Governance Manager, this role is responsible for improving the recoverability of critical business services through identification, classification, analysis and validation of data assets and dependencies required to support successful recovery and business resumption.

Working closely with business, application, infrastructure, architecture, and disaster recovery teams, the ITDR Data Recoverability Engineer develops and maintains critical data inventories, dependency models, recovery requirements, validation controls, and recoverability metrics that strengthen resilience operations and recovery readiness across the enterprise.

Success in this role requires a combination of data governance, recoverability, operational resilience, and analytical capabilities, with a focus on ensuring critical data assets can be recovered, validated, and trusted during recovery testing and recovery events.

What you’ll do

- Identify, classify, and maintain inventories of critical data assets supporting business services, including ownership, recovery requirements, recovery objectives, and recovery priorities.

- Support Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and recovery planning activities by identifying critical data assets, recovery dependencies, and recoverability risks that may impact business service recovery.

- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to ensure critical business services have identified data dependencies, defined recovery requirements, and established recovery validation procedures necessary to support successful business resumption.

- Develop and maintain relationships and dependency models between business services, applications, databases, infrastructure components, third-party services, and critical data assets to support recovery planning, prioritization, and restoration sequencing.

- Collaborate with business, application, infrastructure, and disaster recovery teams to assess recoverability capabilities, identify recovery gaps, conduct recoverability assessments, and recommend improvements that strengthen operational resilience and recovery readiness.

- Evaluate risks related to data loss, corruption, dependency failures, unauthorized access, incomplete recovery, or other conditions that may impact recoverability of critical business services.

- Define and maintain recovery validation requirements, reconciliation controls, data integrity verification processes, and business acceptance criteria used to confirm the integrity, completeness, and usability of recovered data.

- Support recovery testing, recovery exercises, and recovery events by validating critical data assets, coordinating business acceptance activities, documenting results, and tracking remediation actions.

- Design and maintain recoverability metrics, dashboards, reporting, and automated controls used to measure recovery readiness, recovery validation outcomes, and overall recoverability posture.

- Maintain recovery-related metadata, testing evidence, audit documentation, and supporting records required for governance, regulatory, compliance, and audit reviews.

- Support implementation and continuous improvement of data governance, dependency mapping, metadata management, CMDB, and recovery management capabilities that improve business service recoverability.

- Monitor industry practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments and recommend enhancements that strengthen business service recoverability, recovery assurance, and operational resilience capabilities.

- Support compliance with applicable operational resilience, recovery governance, regulatory, security, and audit requirements, including DORA, SOX, ISO 22301, ISO 27001, ISO 27031, NIST CSF, and other applicable standards and frameworks.

What We’re Looking For

- 5+ years proven experience in data governance, disaster recovery, resilience, business continuity, data management, compliance, risk management, or related technology governance disciplines with a good understanding of data methodologies, technologies, and industry standards.

Critical Skills:

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess recoverability risks, evaluate business service impacts, identify dependency-related vulnerabilities, and recommend improvements that strengthen recovery readiness and operational resilience.
- Experience with data validation, reconciliation techniques, and data integrity controls used to verify accuracy and completeness, and useability of recovered data.
- Working knowledge of backup, recovery, cyber recovery, disaster recovery, and operational resilience concepts sufficient to assess recoverability capabilities, recovery risks, dependency impacts, testing outcomes, and business service recovery readiness.
- Familiarity with Business Impact Analysis (BIA), recovery planning, recovery sequencing, critical business service recovery, and operational resilience principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex recovery dependencies, validation requirements, and recoverability challenges.
- Knowledge of critical data asset management, metadata management, business service dependency mapping, data lifecycle management, and recovery classification concepts.
- Good understanding of applications, databases, infrastructure, cloud platforms, and the interdependencies that support critical business services.
- Experience using SQL, reporting, analytics, scripting, or automation tools to support dependency analysis, recovery validation, recoverability assessments, and recovery readiness reporting.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, support project deliveries, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Familiarity with operational resilience, recovery, governance, and security frameworks including DORA, SOX, ISO 22301, ISO 27001, ISO 27031, NIST CSF, NIST SP 800-34, and related industry standards.

Additional Skills:

- Experience with governance, metadata, dependency mapping, CMDB, recovery assurance, or resilience platforms such as Microsoft Purview, ServiceNow, Collibra, Rubrik, LeanIX, Ardoq, or similar technologies.
- Experience supporting critical business service recovery, dependency mapping, recoverability assessments, recovery validation, or operational resilience initiatives within financial services, fintech, banking, insurance, or other highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM), Configuration Management Databases (CMDB), enterprise architecture repositories, or service mapping capabilities used to manage application, infrastructure, and business service relationships.
- Experience developing metrics, dashboards, reporting, or governance artifacts used to communicate recoverability posture, testing outcomes, and recovery readiness to technical and business stakeholders.
- Experience working within financial services, fintech, banking, capital markets, insurance, or other highly regulated environments.
- Relevant certifications or coursework in data governance, disaster recovery, operational resilience, business continuity, risk management, cloud platforms, or related disciplines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively across business, application, infrastructure, recovery, architecture, risk, and governance teams.

Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
