## Job Summary
The Librarian will provide instruction as well as assess and refine the library’s information literacy program to ensure that it meets the needs of the campus. This position will support AI literacy as well as ensure that students have the digital literacy skills needed to be adept at using campus technology and productivity software. S/he will collaborate with library and other campus faculty/partners to design and create active learning environments both in the classroom and online. This position will lead the library’s efforts in first year student outreach and engagement.

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assess and grow the library’s information literacy instruction program.

- Develop and deliver instruction that effectively and ethically promotes information, digital, and AI literacy.

- Work collaboratively with other university partners, including the First-Year Writing Program, University Success Program, and the Center for Teaching Innovation to design and deliver classroom and web-based instruction for first year students to develop a basic level of information literacy.
- Develop instructional materials and e-learning modules to support the online learning environment.
- Provide support and professional development for other librarians and staff involved in instruction, including workshops on improving teaching effectiveness and incorporating AI and other technologies that impact student learning.
- Evaluate library instruction activities and compile, analyze, and report relevant statistics.
- Create assessment strategies to measure the success of information literacy instruction sessions.
- Represent the library at student recruiting events held throughout the year.
- Present library programs to new students at MAMBO, Privateer Plunge, and Spring Splash.
- Provide reference and research consultation services including on call hours, chat and email coverage.

- Provide specialized research assistance/consultation services in assigned subject areas.
- Promote digital literacy training opportunities to the campus and New Orleans community, particularly in the Gentilly neighborhood near the UNO campus.

Required Qualifications:

- MLS or equivalent degree from an American Library Association accredited program or international equivalent.
- Demonstrated teaching ability.
- Expertise in threshold concepts and the information literacy framework.
- Web design and instructional technology skills.
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications for teaching and learning.

- Expertise with standard office software including word processing and spreadsheets.

- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

- Strong commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion in an urban academic setting.

- A commitment to professional service and scholarship and the ability to meet the University’s promotion and tenure requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

- Two years of instruction experience in an academic library.
- Instructional design background.
- Experience with assessment of student learning.
- Experience in developing and teaching for-credit information literacy courses at the university level.
- Experience using LibGuides to create instructional resources
- Interest in integrating new “makerspace” resources and services into the instruction curriculum.
- Experience with course management software (Canvas).
- Participant in ACRL Information Literacy Immersion Program.
- Subject specialist and collection development experience particularly in the sciences and engineering.
