Location: London or Sheffield x 3 days a week in office

Reporting to: Director of Cyber Operations

About the role

We're looking for a Cyber Engineering Manager to lead and develop Royal Mail's Cyber Security Engineering team.

This is a leadership role first and foremost. You'll be leading a team of six security professionals, setting direction, prioritising activity and ensuring the business gets maximum value from its cyber security tooling and investments.

You'll work closely with Cyber Architecture, Security Operations and wider technology teams to enhance Royal Mail's cyber capabilities, drive automation and continuously improve the effectiveness of our security platforms.

This role is ideal for someone who has grown from a technical cyber background and now enjoys leading people, influencing stakeholders and shaping strategy rather than remaining heavily hands-on.

What you'll be doing

- Lead, develop and inspire a team of six Cyber Security Engineers.
- Set the direction for Cyber Security Engineering across a large and complex technology estate.
- Partner with Cyber Architecture to ensure security solutions align with wider technology strategy.
- Oversee the ongoing development and optimisation of key security platforms.
- Drive automation, efficiency and continuous improvement across the cyber function.
- Maximise the value and return on investment from existing and future security tooling.
- Manage third-party suppliers and technology partners.
- Lead security technology renewal and investment activities.
- Manage competing priorities and resources to ensure successful delivery.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across technology and the wider business.

What we're looking for

We're interested in experienced cyber leaders who can demonstrate:

- Proven experience leading and developing technical cyber security teams.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- A solid understanding of Cyber Security Engineering, Security Operations and Security Architecture.
- Experience working with enterprise security tooling and platforms.
- Knowledge of technologies such as Microsoft Sentinel, and Zscaler.
- Experience driving tooling improvements, automation and operational efficiency.
- The ability to translate technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
- A pragmatic and risk-based approach to cyber security.
