About this role

Being a Grant Accountant is primarily responsible for the accounting and financial service functions for programs funded by government grants and other revenue. These functions include preparing financial projections and budgets, managing allocation sheets, actual v. budget reporting, reviewing/monitoring of individual grants and transactions for compliance with private, local, state, and federal fund requirements, billing and collections, journal entries, and financial grant reporting including preparation of reports for granting authorities. The position may also be required to verify budget proposals for grant applications. In this position the Grant Accountant supports the coordination of the Grant forecast meetings and monitoring grant reimbursements

- Annual Compensation:  $65,000

Vacation and sick leave eligibility, accruals, usage, rollover limits, holiday eligibility, and all benefit programs are administered in accordance with HAWC policies and applicable plan documents.

Qualifications

The Requirements We are Seeking:

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

- One year of general accounting experience.

- Two years of government grant experience.

- Proficient understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

- Experience in use of SAGE accounting system, preferred

- Experience in managing government grants, preferred

- Intermediate knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)

- Valid Texas Driver's License

What you Deliver in this role:

- You will complete assigned monthly government grant billings to ensure compliance to contract agreement and government regulations

- You will ensure deadlines and financial reporting requirements are met over the life of each assigned grant

- You will coordinate with the Grant Coordinators, Manager and program staff, to ensure transactions are properly recorded and agree to the grant/contract agreement, while also ensuring sub-recipient/subcontract financial activities adhere to deliverable deadlines.

- You will monitor sub-recipients. Review budgets and reimbursement requests for appropriateness, and ensure sub-recipients are in compliance with administrative and/or government policies and regulations

- You will plan, organize, and coordinate the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grant portfolio, including: preparing annual and grant budgets, forecasting revenue, estimating any carry-over of funds from one year to the next.

- You will maintain and verify financial, statistical, or other fiscal records in connection with various local, regional, state, and federal grants.

- You will clarify and resolve technical and contractual issues and problems with grants, and guides department staff on grant regulations and use of grant funding.

- You will review invoices, travel expense requests and payment documentation for accuracy and proper coding before attaching to monthly grant billings

- You will prepare monthly invoices/billings and ensure funds are received

- You will prepare or assist in the preparation of all applicable fiscal reports for sponsored programs and ensures the timely submission thereof.

- You will coordinate with key personnel at all levels of the Agency to support proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines.

- You will develop positive working relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight.

- You will reconcile assigned Accounts Receivable general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.

- You will compile statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports as required.

- Other duties/projects as assigned.
