Software-focused Systems Engineer - 1018

We are seeking a Software-Focused Systems Engineer in our Broomfield, CO location to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and guide software-intensive systems from concept through integration, operation, and validation. This role combines requirements engineering, system modeling, interface definition, troubleshooting, change analysis, risk management, V&V support, and limited software development. This role offers the opportunity to work on a hybrid schedule. Employees are expected to work at their assigned location and may work remotely up to 2 days per week, with approval.

Key Responsibilities:

- Translate stakeholder needs into clear, testable system and software requirements with end-to-end traceability.

- Develop functional flows, block definition diagrams, behavioral models, system architectures, and Interface Control Documents.

- Allocate requirements and functions across software, hardware, users, and external systems.

- Assist troubleshooting by reproducing failures, analyzing logs and system behavior, isolating causes across subsystem boundaries, and recommending corrective actions.

- Perform change-impact analysis across requirements, architecture, interfaces, implementation, risks, and verification.

- Advise V&V teams on acceptance criteria, test coverage, failure scenarios, and expected system behavior.

- Lead or support FMEAs, define mitigations, assess residual risk, and ensure mitigations are implemented and verified.

- Support design, integration, technical reviews, defect investigations, and release-readiness decisions.

- Develop prototypes, simulations, test tools, or production software when needed to reduce technical risk or support delivery.

- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior software developers and systems engineers through design guidance, artifact and code reviews, troubleshooting support, and knowledge sharing.

- Promote consistent engineering practices for requirements, system modeling, software design, verification, risk management, and technical decision documentation.

YOU MUST HAVE:

- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree

- Minimum 8+ years of combined software engineering and systems engineering experience, with demonstrated responsibility in both disciplines.

- Minimum 3+ years of experience developing requirements, system models, interfaces, and verification criteria.

- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person. defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status

- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

WE VALUE:

- Master’s degree in systems engineering, software engineering, computer science, related field, or equivalent experience preferred.

- Experience troubleshooting complex-integrated systems using logs, test evidence, software behavior, and structured root-cause analysis.

- Working knowledge of software architecture, APIs, source code, configuration, and system integration.

- Strong technical analysis, collaboration, and communication skills.

- Experience with SysML, model-based systems engineering, and system-modeling tools.

- Experience supporting FMEAs and reliability analyses.

- Software-development or prototyping experience.

- Experience with automated testing, GitHub, CI/CD, Robot Framework, Cypress, or JFrog Artifactory.

Compensation & Benefits: 
The pay range for this role is $132,000 – $178,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate's skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
