Project FIND’s mission is to provide low- and moderate-income and homeless seniors with the services and support they need to enrich their lives and live independently. Today Project FIND operates three supportive housing residences that are home to about 600 people and four senior centers with over 3,000 members. Our members and residents range from the healthy and active to the frail and homebound to the homeless. Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Coffeehouse Program Director, the maintenance worker is responsible for the overall upkeep and preservation of the center, its grounds and other designated areas. Must meet/maintain all New York City Aging and Department of Health and Mental Hygiene standards.
Responsibilities:
- Sweep, mop, and maintain all floors and stairways (where applicable).
- Replace floor tiles and ceiling panels as needed.
- Perform minor fixes, such as repairing broken locks, damage to walls, painting/plastering etc.
- Emptying of waste baskets and garbage cans in the kitchen and program spaces.
- Complete regular maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs.
- Clean bathroom floors, toilets, and urinals. Replacement of toilet paper, paper towels rolls, and other supplies where needed.
- Clean mirrors and glass. i.e., front door, bathrooms, bulletin boards, and bookcases.
- Complete required paperwork to ensure compliance with NYC Aging and New York Department of Mental Health and Hygiene (DOHMH) i.e.: self- inspection, household/disposable inventory and execute storing supplies immediately upon delivery.
- Transport furniture other program equipment and food items across sites as needed.
- Assemble and/or install program appliances, furniture and small equipment upon request.
- Maintain the Center’s offices, storage areas, lobbies, hallways, kitchen area and equipment as well as dining room in keeping with policies established by the New York City Aging and NYDOHMH.
- Reviews program calendar to know how to set up for all programs and special events.
- Troubleshoot and report any maintenance issues that require immediate action to the Program Director.
- Performs other appropriate job-related tasks as deemed necessary by the Program Director and/or agency management.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required and/or 2-4 years prior experience in a maintenance position (preferably with senior center experience).
- Experience working with tools, including manual and electrical units.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to solve problems while considering site logistics.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- Tasks could involve moderate to heavy physical labor. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Work may be conducted either inside or outside according to maintenance request.
- May be responsible for opening/closing program sites, turning on/off lights, cooling/heating systems.
- Coverage and/or travel from one local site to another is required.
- Walking, climbing, standing, sitting, and lifting are required.
- Ability to read and utilize technical manuals and drawings.
Schedule:
Monday-Friday (35 hours weekly) from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, with the flexibility and availability to work some holidays/evenings.
Project FIND participates in E-Verify, which confirms employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. The E-Verify process is completed in conjunction with the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. E-Verify is not used as a tool to pre-screen candidates.
