We’re interested in a team player who can support public relations campaigns through media monitoring and reporting, research and writing. As an intern with the BMO Public Relations team, you’ll support media campaigns and projects that generate earned coverage with measurable results. Working in an integrated manner with communicators across the bank, you’ll contribute in many ways including helping to think of creative ways to amplify and extend our earned media coverage with both internal and external audiences. As a Public Relations Intern, you will get opportunities for learning and development at a large and diverse organization, as part of a team that touches all areas of the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

- Drafting and circulating daily monitoring clip sheet to be sent out to top level executives and leaders across the Bank.
- Providing real-time media coverage updates on BMO and industry news.
- Compiling media coverage reports and maintaining databases of relevant coverage.
- Drafting and maintaining media lists, setting up press releases for distribution and managing translation, as needed.
- Providing support for various lines of business through development of media materials i.e. research, press releases, briefing documents, etc.
- Building effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
- Supporting public relations efforts across all lines of business

- Onsite media event and interview support, as required.

Skills & Qualifications

- Recent graduate of a college or university program currently enrolled in a post-graduate program/certificate in Public Relations or Communications.
- Experience in Public Relations or previous internships, considered an asset.
- Exceptional ability to proofread, prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong written communication with ability to quickly identify and summarize key points.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor under all circumstances.
- Ability to take direction and follow through on tasks with limited supervision.
- Ability to meet prescribed deadlines, using problem-solving skills to overcome barriers to getting the job done.
- Familiarity and interest in current events and the financial sector.
- Strong interest in the Canadian and U.S. media landscapes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Operating System and Office Suite, including: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of Canadian Press and Associated Press style.
- Experience with media monitoring tools considered an asset.

Develops, promotes, maintains & manages designated corporate/employee program(s), performing periodic reviews, analyzing program outcomes, providing insights and making recommendations for enhancements/changes as required. Ensures the effective & efficient execution of all program components, including ensuring change management & communications are in place for any enhancements/changes and mitigating any risk. Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

- Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of solutions.
- Supports the development of the program strategy ensuring that key goals are delivered and are aligned to overall BMO goals.
- Supports the management of the corporate / employee program, including developing program components, promoting the program and ensuring the execution of all program components.
- Designs measurable sustainment strategies including assessing and recommending mitigations for industry/ segment-specific risks and prioritizing opportunities presented by internal and external stakeholders.
- Investigates, analyzes, documents & mitigates program risks and advises any issues or concerns to senior leaders.
- Understands the purpose of the program and ensures that stakeholder needs are understood and integrated into the development & management of the program.
- Analyzes the impact and effectiveness of the program through periodic reviews of the programs and makes recommendations to improve processes, procedures and/or policy
- Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide program insights and recommendations.
- Monitors and tracks program performance, and addresses any issues. Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
- Manages the change management for any enhancements / changes and ensures that appropriate plans are in place to execute effectively.
- Tracks exception requests and corresponding approvals.
- Participates in the management of vendor relationships; ensures regular reviews are in place, key performance indicators are monitored, service level agreements are met and service costs are kept within budget.
- Oversees project activities o ensure deadlines are met and program solutions are delivered as scheduled.
- Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of core program processes.
- Participates in assigned strategic initiatives impacting the overall program, providing insight and analytical support.
- Continuously monitor industry developments and continuously update.
- Focus may be on a business/group.
- Thinks creatively and proposes new solutions.
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
- Works mostly independently.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
- Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying our Risk Management Framework in the execution of your role, in line with our Risk Culture and within our approved Risk Appetite, making sound and risk informed decisions that align to business strategy, protect assets, and adhere to applicable policy documents (Frameworks, Policies, Standards, Procedures and Supporting documents), laws and regulations.

Qualifications:
- As a full-time employee, we would require 3-5 years of experience, however as part of the BMO campus program, we are looking for motivated individuals with a strong desire to learn.

Salary :
$45,000.00 - $100,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
